"So......what the hell are we gonna do!" Erika says, nearly yelling.
"Shut up, Erika."
"No. You shut up, Mark! Whether you care or not, we almost died in there. So, excuse me if I'm just a little bit upset." With a huff, she sits back in her seat with her arms crossed.
A nudge in my side brings me back to reality,"Are you okay?" Erika asks, looking at me with concerned eyes.
Am I okay?
I did just see a man killed in front of me, but am I okay.
She must see the answer in my eyes because she wraps her arms around me, "We're going to be okay. We're two strong black women."
Bruh.
I push away from her laughing, "I hate you, Erika." She laughs too and she playfully bumps me.
"I got you laughing though. Do you feel better now."
"Whatever, Erika." I say.

"We're gonna have to split up." Theo says as we arrive at the safe house. Which is really just a cabin in the woods.
"No! In every scary movie that's how folks get killed. We are not splitting up." Erika says.
"Well that's just too damn bad, my job is to protect her not you, so that means I can careless about what happens to you!" He replies harshly.
"Theo, that was too fucking much." Mark finally says. His eyes narrowed in disapproval. "Let's just take a breather for a few seconds."
Erika stomps out the screen door after fixing Theo with a glare, and slams it shut, Mark hurries after her.
Theo huffs a breath and turns toward the couch where I'm sitting. "You mad at me too."
When I don't reply he continues, "You're my priority here, no one else. I was hired to protect you and only you. So if I got to be an ass to do that then so be it." I don't even look at him when he's done. Only the slamming of the back door announces that he's left the room.
His explanation should make me feel good. Knowing he would protect me with his life, but Erika has become my best friend. If anything were to happen to her, I would blame myself. She's the only reason I made it out of that place.
Alive and....intact.
While everyone's cooling down, I might as well fix a home cooked meal.

"So how does everyone like the dinner. It's my specialty." I say trying to break the tension in the room.
"If this is your specialty, I fear for your future husband." Mark says with a breathy laugh catching on to what I'm trying to do. His laugh dies on a broken note when nobody joins in.
"The noodles are kind of over cooked." Erika finally says, after a long period of silence. I look at Theo who's sitting across from me, but he doesn't look back at me.
