Breath of Darkness

Chapter 9

"What do you mean ?" Aaliyah gasped.

"Well I can't tell you the now without your dad being present but don't breathe a word of this to your mother."

"But... I never keep secrets from my mother......" 

"This one time Aaliyah please just listen to me for your sake."

We flooded through the doors to our small house. Every possible thought was filling my brain at this moment.  What if someone was sick, dying, leaving. What if the next thing to come out of their mouths changed my whole life forever. Forever was a very long time. How could someone just turn up outta the blew without even an explanation.  I looked over to my little sister and I could see the worry spread across her face. There was no denying that these two little girls sitting here would be altered and never coming back. I sat in silence wondering how long we had been here. Dad didn't finish work till late and no matter how much Hope begged to be told nothing was said. Dread coursed through my veins as I patiently waited looking at the door. Finally Dad arrived home from work. I hadn't noticed his car coming into the driveway so when I heard the door crash open I almost jumped out of my skin. The two brothers froze  in their places as the watched each other. The stares seemed to last a lifetime until Dad's sigh broke the deadly silence. He looked over at Hope and told her to go to her room for now. Hope pleaded but he was having none of it. 

"Sit down Aaliyah. We need to talk."  My Uncle's voice seemed to bounce against the walls.

I shiver was sent up my back and could feel myself becoming uneasy. I couldn't help the thoughts flying through my head.  Dread filled my veins once more and I could feel my chest tightening.  I could my life slowly draining from me. I realised that the person sitting in this room will not leave this room as the same person. 

"Aaliyah, I'm so sorry ." My father began.

"You aren't who you think you might be. You see before I met your mother I had another person that I loved dearly. We loved each other with all of our hearts. We ended up having a child and she was the most beautiful thing in this world. But when word got round about the child people very high up in authority weren't too happy. One dreadful day, I was spending time with my daughter. I heard a piecing scream coming from the house. I rushed into the house only to find my love slumped again the wall. She had been stab twice in the abdomen. She slowly bled to death in my arms but before she closed her eyes to the world she made me make a promise. A promise that no matter what no harm would come to our daughter. I grieved for years over my beloved Lara. I finally decided to open my heart and I finally met your mother.  I slowly began to open my heart to her and let her know about my past and now here we are. The reason I'm telling you this Aaliyah is that you are that daughter. You are the beautiful daughter from all those years ago. I vowed to protect you from the darkness and I vowed to do till my dying breath."

I was shocked. Frozen in time. I cannot believe that my whole life has been a lie. I knew I looked different from my sister but do sisters always look related. I cannot believe this. My whole world has been turned upside down in the space of a few minutes. Never in my life had I dreamed that my life could turn out like this. 

"There is something else Aaliyah. You're a hybrid. A cross between an angel and a human. Aaliyah you're a Nephilim. Now there are people that will be looking for you. Dark magic. You will always have to watch your back. Promise me you ......" 

Suddenly a bang from the window.My eyes darted to the window and back to my father. He lay there slumped over. Dead. My father was dead...........
