"Then one of the guys from the other class came with flowers and some cheesy stuffs to give my cute classmate. Actually she's not that cute..." Drew said while we're at the backseat of his dad's car.
"What's your problem? It's sweet," I said to him.
"Sweet?" Then he made a face while shaking his head. "I'll never be like those fools."
I laughed at his reaction. "You can't say that."
"No. It's a promise." He looked me in the eyes. Oh! Could those eyes be any more gorgeous? "I WILL NEVER FALL IN LOVE."
My smile disappeared but I just changed the topic so that he'll not notice. "Next week is the seventeenth of August. What's your plan?"
He took his phone. "I have no idea. I don't even think I will celebrate."
"What?" his dad, who was driving, said.
"Dad, I'm eighteen and I still have my dad as my driver. Please consider this just so my birthday won't be ruined."
"And what do you mean about that?"
"You know what I mean. I want to celebrate it the way I wanted to. No baloons and kiddie stuffs."
"That was your mom's idea!"
"Oh come on! You too were confused about me and Diane."
"Hey," I butt in. "Stop arguing with your dad," I whispered.
Oh, Drew... My bestfriend and my secret first love... I was thinking about what to give him next week. I already gave him a green shirt, green shorts, green towel... I don't want him to just blend in with the trees but he really loves green.
Oh, I know exactly what to give him! Although I'm not sure if my budget is enough.
August 17, 1993
I looked at the mirror analyzing if my make-up is natural enough. Not slutty but not too plainy.
Who am I kidding? Who would look good with this huge glasses. Such a nerd!
"Hey!" I almost jumped when I heard his voice. He was already at my door. "Wow!"
With that simple word, my heart almost leave my chest. "Happy Birthday."
"Thanks. Are you done?" He is looking at me from head to toe making me more conscious about my look.
"Ah, yeah. Be right there."
His house was just across ours so I have no problem taking my time. When I got there, Diane came running towards me.
"Taylor!! I miss you." I hugged her.
"How could you miss me? I'm just here yesterday."
She laughed. "You're so pretty." She tucked my curly hair behind my ear.
"Not as pretty as you are."
"Hey, Taylor, join us," Drew's Dad, Darwin, said. "Drew's friends and classmates are here already."
If he was only younger, I would thought Drew and he were twins. They have exact same looks.
"What is this?" Diane asked me holding my gift for Drew. "Hey Drew!! Check out Taylor's gift!"
Drew came towards us and took my gift. As he unwrapped it his eyes were full of amazement. He looked at me and hugged me. I just wish the time stops there.
"What's that, man?" one of his classmates asked him. "Whoah! Do you know how to play that?"
"Of course," he said. It was a guitar. He wanted to have it ever since we were in first year but he never asked his parents. "Thank you Taylor. You're the best."
