Chapter 21: Wake Up Call

It's been two weeks. Graduation tomorrow and Michael still hasn't woken up.
He makes slight movements and groans a lot but never wakes up. The doctor says he can wake up at any moment now. I was really hoping he would wake up before Graduation but I guess not.
Yesterday I found out that I'm the Valedictorian and some other boy is the Salutatorian. I don't remember ever hearing his name before but whatever.

I'm on my way to the hospital to see Michael at the moment. I pull in and park in my usual spot at the back closest towards the building.

I walk in and go straight to the fourth floor.

"Hello Jessica."

"Hey Nurse Janice, Anything different today."

" I think you might be surprised."
Nurse Janice is a very nice older lady that helps take care of Michael. She is actually the only nurse that really takes good care of Michael and she's super sweet.
"Go on back there and see him."

I walk to Michael's room and see him sitting up looking at the TV.

I freeze up as soon as I see him and he looks over at me. He has this mug on this face that lets me know he's still not over what has transpired.

"Hey Michael"

"Don't 'Hey Michael' me. Bitch, what the fuck is you doing hea?"

" What you mean, what I'm doing here?" I say taken aback.

"Exactly what I fucking said, what the fuck is you doing hea!? What you came to finish the job? You had me shot. I fell for you and you had me shot. I almost died because of you." He yells accusing me.

"Michael shut the fuck up. I been here for you everyday since you been in here. I didn't play you and I didn't have you shot, I was there to air everything out and drop the beef. And believe me the person that shot you got theirs coming. I haven't done anything to you but be here for you! I been doing YOUR school work, so YOU could graduate on time, I'm the one who's been up here everyday making sure YOU get the best care. I'm the one that's been running YO shit since you been out. Don't nobody give a fuck about you but me!!" I yell breathing hard.

"Guess how many of your home boys been up here for you THREE!!! That's it, and that was weeks ago. So to answer your question I'm doing what I always come here to do which is take care of your ass." I turn to walk back out but then turn back around. "And just to let you know if I wanted you dead, you would have died that night!!!", I snap. I turn and walk out.

I can't believe this niggah or any of this shit

"Well damn." I say as she turns and walks out. I didn't expect for it to go down like that and I damn sho didn't know half the shit she had just said happened. Now I feel bad.

I woke up around 5 this morning and had been checked by the doctors and the nurses. They said I could go home tomorrow morning but I would have to have someone with me when I leave to go home.

I sho thought it would have been one of my boys to take me home and be there for me but according to Jessi they ain't stuntin my ass.

" Hey, How you feeling?"

I look to the door and see Nurse Janice standing there with a box in her hand.

She was the one that came in when I first woke up. She real nice and she reminds me of my grandmother.

"Hey, I'm good Nurse Janice."

"Well that's good, Where's Jay?" She asks walking into the room.

"Excuse me, 'Jay'?"

"Yeah you know Jessica. She's been up here everyday since you been here and stays for hours until she has to go to school and then come right back afterwards. She leaves around 11 every night but that's if she doesn't spend the night." She says sitting the box down on the bedside table.

"Well shit."

She cuts and narrows her eyes at me.
"I mean shoot. Sorry Nurse Janice."

" Yeah uhuh, Watch yo mouth. Now, What's wrong?"

" I think I messed thing up with Jessica."

"How?"

"Well I basically asked her why she was hea and told her I didn't want her here."

"Now why would you do that?" She says scolding me.

"It's a long story but she went off on saying a lot of stuff, like she has been the only one that's been there for me and ain't nobody been up here to see me. I think she was lying about some of the stuff she said." I say thinking about what she said about my schoolwork and my homeboys not being here.

"Well that's true, Your last visitor that wasn't Jay, last came two weeks ago." She says checking my IV.

" Well looks like I won't be going home anytime soon, or at least until I can find somebody to take me."

" No Son, You have to leave tomorrow." She says sounding as if she feels sorry for me.

"Why tomorrow?" I ask frowning at her.

"Because tomorrow is your Graduation. This is what in this here box. Your Cap and Gown." She says pulling them out the box. "Jessica had them delivered up here, just in case you woke up before tomorrow."

" How am I Gradu....?"

Then it hit me Jessica did this she hadn't lied. She had my back when no one else did and she didn't play me. But I pushed her away and now I had lost her.
