Chapter Fourteen|
As the weeks passed, things have slowly been better. I glanced at May as we walked down the hallway. She gave me a bold smirk before looking ahead again.
We stopped at May's locker and I waited for her to get her papers for English class.
"So how long are you going to be staying at my house?" She asked while scavenging through her messy locker.
Shrugging, I then replied. "I don't know."
May sighed. "I know things are hard with you right now but you can't just avoid your Mom and your baby sister forever."
I winced at the words baby sister. Just hearing those words didn't feel right. Having a younger sister who had bought to the world by drunken, accidental sex didn't feel right.
"Don't," I stopped her while glaring at the ground. Thinking about that little girl made me sick. I didn't hate her but I felt almost bad for her. Neither of her parents deserve her.
"I'm sorry," She closed her locker and she seemed to have wanted to say something but closed her mouth when her phone vibrated. May looked down at the message and the corner of her lips were being tugged upward – until she looked up and noticed I was still there.
Her smile vanished right before clearing her throat and clutching onto her notebook and papers. "Hey, you mind heading to class alone? I have something to...deal with."
I sighed, not wanting to think about her secret relationship or...sexual doings with Ms. Young.
Was she having sex with her?
I shook my head, trying to get rid of the thought. I did NOT want to know what was going behind Ms. Young's door when there were no students present.
"Yeah, go ahead." She gave me her guilt smile before rushing towards where Ms. Young's class was.
I really needed to confront her about this.
Everyone was moving away from the middle of the hallway and I already knew who was coming.
The Perfettes came walking in – their heels being the only sound in the hallway.
Marissa was having a conversation with Ainsley which seemed intriguing since they both had been laughing. Tracie was on the phone with someone and it didn't seem like a good conversation considering how much yelling she was doing and Wiktoria was looking around dumbfounded and honestly, that was no surprise.
But really, my eyes were only on Ainsley Roberts.
Her long dark hair that fell to her lower back had been all over the place and I could tell she had been struggling to remove it from her face. She had been wearing a yellow floral dress with white flats and a white cardigan. She looked so bright and happy.
How could I be the one to have to ruin that?
The bell rung which caused me to pull away from my thoughts.
-------
I closed the door to the place I used to call my home but it seemed so dead. It was dead silent, the only sound that entered my ears were my footsteps.
