Shortly after they arrived to a sign that said 'Champs de Mars – Tour Eiffel' and some stairs going underground, Mark stood up, read the sign and went down the stairs, since their last entrance to the subway they had purchased a few tickets to move around, just in case of need, so they used them to go into the station. Mireya followed him exhausted and in silence. Soon, they both arrived to the platform where hanging from the ceiling appeared yellow neon signs naming the station they were on 'Champs de Mars – Tour Eiffel', other signs stated their direction 'Versailles - Chantiers' and a last neon sign showed in bright yellow the letters 'RER'. Mark found it quite weird not to see any metro signs around and turned around to the boards to look for the route that they would have to take to arrive to the hotel. In the back Mireya was yawning tired and began showing signs of impatience. He then realized that there was no map of the subway lines around and turned around to see that the boards didn't seem to have any map with all the lines and crossings. With a feeling of uneasiness he went to Mireya's side who was now getting upset on the wait, when a couple of backpack tourists seemed to catch up to their side.
"The train hasn't departed yet has it?" asked the young man, while the girl that was with him opened a bottle of water and took a drink from it, Mireya shook her head slightly annoyed "Well, it's natural" he continued "The midnight train is the last service there is so it takes a while in each station picking up the last boarders, but it will come around soon you'll see" he smiled at Mireya and she smiled back a bit more calm.
Mark felt a sting in his mind and asked him "What time is it?"
"Its 11:55 pm" said the girl tourist answering him
"Oh thanks!" said Mark and began taking out the subway map just to realize that he couldn't locate the name of the station in any of the lines close by. "That is so bizarre" he said stretching out the map, Mireya couldn't help but notice something going wrong.
"What? What is it?" she inquired getting worried.
"I can't seem to find this metro station in our map" said Mark to her.
"What?!" she shouted taking the map out of his hands and searching quickly at the stations with sharp eyes.
Mireya started getting frustrated when she realized she wasn't unable to locate the station where they were, the station existed alright, because they were there, and the map was updated because it matched all the other maps they had seen before, yet the station wasn't there, her unease started increasing and then she heard someone talking behind her.
"Metro?" it was the male backpack tourist "Well, it would be a bit hard to find wouldn't it?" he cracked out a little smile "I meant since after all this is the RER line, a public transportation, however not the metro line itself"
"RER?" repeated Mireya more to herself as she tried to take in all the information then she felt a tight and strong grip around her wrist, instantly she looked up and her eyes looked around for her brother, whom she found a bit further from her, his right arm was stretched out towards her and in his right hand there was her own and with quick reflexes she pulled up her backpack and felt her feet moving up and picking up speed following her brother.
"Thanks!" Mark shouted as he pulled Mireya towards the exit. His eyes looking around anxiously, searching for a little certain detail. The letter M inside a circle. The sign of the Parisian subway. He kept walking at a fast pace away from the platform and he went upstairs as if he was going to change directions "God please" he muttered as he realized he hadn't released Mireya and she was shouting and stumbling, he released his grip but didn't stood to check on her. He had to find a way back to the hotel, he had to take his sister back to the hotel, and he couldn't leave her there.
