Chapter five

Shakey takes my hand in his. I smile at him and he does the same back. I shift my gaze from him to the City we're finally leaving behind. Tessa, Leonie and Jaël had left early in the morning, back to Tirkia City. It was sad to separate our ways, but we would meet again. There's no hesitation about it. We checked the Ounihus before we left, but apparently, I never lived in the North Region either. A rumour had spread around. They said everyone, including the prisoners, have died due the fire. Because it was impossible to find any traces, they assume that the fire was caused from a malfunctioning system or a small fire that had spread out. Of course, we know pretty much what really happened. We reach our snow scooter. We had agreed with the others that we would hand over one of ours. We'll just travel through the North Region with one scooter. He takes place on the seat and pulls me down to sit in front of him. He takes the steer. Fortunately, Tessa had healed most of his wounds with her powers.

"Are you ready to leave?" He asks.

Words bubble up from nowhere: "If I'm with you, I'll go everywhere."

He chuckles, takes the steer and accelerates. We bought a new outfit for me since the people would gawk at me otherwise. The icy wind blows and cuts in our skin. It doesn't matter to me. As long as I'm with Shakey, I don't care. I cuddle closer against him. Being alone with him brings back the memories. It reminds me how we travelled from town to town to find more about myself. Now, we're back on the track of seeking my old life. I'd lie if I would say I haven't considered forgetting about the past and head to the future. Losing Shakey made quite an impact on me. I fear the dangerers ahead. Yet, something in me tells me I have to figure it out. Plus, I clearly remember the promise I made to Yaten. I simply have to know who I am. Somehow it's important. Shakey presses me closer to his chest. A smile plays on my face. We're riding towards Gelo Town. It isn't that far away, so I suppose we'll arrive there at dusk. The scenery doesn't change, even if we ride farther away. The landscape is still white. During our ride, we stop for a few minutes to eat a lunch. I stretch myself out before I plan to sit down again until something cold hits against my head. I jerk my head around. Shakey laughs it out. He takes a small amount of snow and moulds it into a ball. He throws it to me with dazzling speed, but I avoid it. It appears that the snow doesn't bother him as much as Jaël. I do the same as he did and create a ball. I launch it to him and miraculously, it hits. A shocked expression appears on his face, but soon fades into a smirk. He hastily creates more balls and fires them to me. He probably played with snow many times before. I can miss most of them but a few smash against my back or head. Through all the throws and hits, we can't stop giggling. Eventually, we end up lying next to each other in the cold snow. Both of us pant a bit. Then we look at each other and burst into laughter. Then he moves his arms and legs. Thereafter he stands up and raises me up.

"It's a snow angel." He points to the shape in front of us that he created, "I've heard that the people of the North region give it a special meaning. Whenever two persons who deeply love each other are together and one creates a snow angel, it's as if they make a vow. An unbreakable vow of eternal love, together forever."

"It's beautiful." I utter after a while. He lays his arm around my waist. Together, we share this moment of beauty and happiness. He draws me closer and lifts my face towards his. He presses his kiss on my lips and I happily accept it. The flow of time changes. Minutes change into hours. My heart races madly. I try my best to calm it, but it's in vain. He breaks the kiss and smiles at me. I blush.

"Let's go." He mumbles later on. He leads me back to the scooter and we move ahead towards the town.

Jaël follows Tessa into the room of a hidden building. Although it's cold, she bears with it for now. It's her decision after all. She chose to go with them to fight for the sake of many others. She sees all the escaped Mahubies lying on a bed, while other treat them.
