Chapter six

I can't exactly tell where I am right now. I groan. My head is killing me. I lay my hand on it. Hoping that it'll get better. Eventually, I slowly open my eyes.

"Jolyne?" I recognize Shakey's voice. I mumble something back to him.

"Welcome back." I can even sense his smile through his words. I don't even have to see him to know it.

"What happened?" I emit tiredly. I sit up on the bed and blink my eyes.

"You fainted while we were trying to get our snow scooter back."

"Right." My throat is sore dry. I rub my eyes and try to see clearly. I'm in an uncommon room. The colour of the walls is soft green. Shakey is sitting on a chair next to the bed. I also see the blonde boy standing next to him. His investigating gaze is upon me.

"Hi." I greet him friendly. He doesn't answer me, instead he leaves the room.

"After you blacked out, he said that we could bring you to his house." Shakey refers to the boy.

"In that case, I should thank him." I get up from the bed and stand on both my feet.

"And his parents," He adds, "They let us stay for the night. It's morning by now." I'm shocked that I slept that long.

"I'm sorry. I delayed the journey." I hastily apologize. He winks at me.

"It's ok, don't worry." Although he tells me that, I can't help but to feel bad about it.

"Did you see more flashbacks?" He asks all of a sudden with a stern face. I nod silently. He doesn't question more about it. Eventually, we walk out of the room to arrive in the living room. The boy is sitting on the lap of a man who looks just as him, only many years older. I suppose it's his father.

"It's good to see that you're alright." The man says to me.

"Thank you for your hospitality." I smile at him.

"You're welcome." He replies to my gratefulness, "It's what I could at least do for my son's behaviour." The boy shares a small glance with his father, but doesn't say anything.

"It's ok," Shakey says earnestly, "I think that we should get going now. I don't want to burden you any longer. Thank you for everything."

"We both wish you a safe journey." He smiles at us, bringing us to the front door. We tell each other goodbye and go to the snow scooter which is standing next to the house. Actually, when I take a better look, it's a really big house. I immediately understand why Shakey was being formal against the man. As I want to sit down, a voice calls out to me. I turn my head around and see the blonde boy.

"I...," He seems to feel awkward by it, "I'm sorry for stealing the scooter. I just want to tell you that I admire your strength."

"Strength?" I echo confused.

"Yeah," He nods heavily, "Shakey told us that you don't remember who you are and I admire that you're still holding on. I promise you that I will work hard and become stronger."

I can't help but to smile. He's more courageous than he thinks.

"I'm sure you will." I encourage him. Without me expecting it, he rushes to my side, wraps his hands around my waist and presses his head against me. He shows me a sort of tenderness that he probably hadn't been able to express for a long while. He releases a few tears. I soothe him by caressing him on his head. I have no idea where it came from. My heart fills itself with warm feelings. I want to share it all with the little boy. Eventually he pushes himself from me and wipes the tears away. He brings a smile on his face.
