I haven't touched this story in a long time and I have grown to really hate writing in first person so my writing style will be different from here on out. I had horrible writers block with almost all of my stories so if you have any ideas, any at all, please tell me. Hope you enjoy!
The sound of his voice echoed throughout the house as he called for her.
"Ellen, we are going to be late."
She finishes applying her lipstick and puts it into her purse, glancing at her reflection one last time before rushing downstairs. His eyes never leave her form as she makes her way to him. He was mesmerized by her very existence and he didn't ever want to break the trance.
"You look..." he trails off, not finding the words that come close to describing her beauty.
"Thank you." she says softly, blushing from his compliment. She fixes his tie while he continues to stare at her in shock.
"You look dashing." she says, smiling at him, making him chuckle. And then he becomes serious.
"Are you nervous?" he asks.
"No. Are you?" she asks.
"A little." he admits. She takes his hand, quickly bringing him comfort.
"Let's go. The driver is waiting." she says, pulling him to the door. When they arrive, the flash of the camera is almost blinding even through their tinted windows.
"I don't want to get out." she says, not wanting to be harassed by the cameras and the personal questions.
"I know. I never do. But we have to. We're holding up the line." he says. She smiles and watches as Patrick slides out of the car before walking around to open her door. The cameras flash and people begin shouting their names, everyone wanting an interview.
"Just don't let go." she shouts into his ear over the shouts of the paparazzi.
"I would never." he shouts back. They stop and smile for pictures, there hands never leaving each other. If his hand wasn't clasped in hers, it was on her back or wrapped around her waist. They ignore most of the photographers and interviewers for a while until it became overwhelming.
"I guess we have to talk at some point." Patrick says. Ellen nods and follows him to a lady with a microphone.
"Here we have with us Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo." the girl says into the camera. She turns to them with a smile.
"Burning question that everyone has been dying to know: Are you two together?"
"So how long before Patrick's accident were you two together?" she asks.
"We actually didn't become official until far after the accident." Patrick explains.
"I just happened to be at the same race that Patrick was competing in and I took care of him when his ex wife refused to." Ellen says with a smile.
"And Patrick, where do you see your future heading? Any acting in the future?" she asks.
"I'm not sure yet. I haven't really been focusing on the future as much as I was on just getting my legs to move." he says with a chuckle.
"And how are you now?" she asks.
"Well I have almost complete function of all extremities. I have my days though but with Ellen by my side, I feel like anything is bearable." he says, tightening his hold on Ellen's waist.
"Thank you Patrick and Ellen." she says. They walk away, heading to the building.
"Are you okay? We've been walking for a while." Ellen says, noticing the limp Patrick is beginning to walk with. He smiles, straightening up.
"Fine." he says. They walk inside, Ellen's eyes flickering over to him, still not believing him. He tries the best he can to walk normally but the pain in his legs increases with each step he takes. They find the grey's anatomy table and Patrick smiles widely at seeing all of the familiar faces.
"Patrick it's so good to see you." Chandra says, standing up to hug him. The rest of the cast follows, each telling him how proud they are and how strong he is when all he really wanted was to just sit down. After what felt like forever, Ellen finally directed him to where they would be sitting. As his body rests in the chair, he can see his surroundings become blurry which worries him.
"Pat?"
"What?" he asks, looking in Ellen's direction but only seeing her blurry silhouette.
"Do you want water?" she asks again.
"Yes please." he says, looking back at the table.
"Hey are you feeling okay? Because we don't have to stay." she whispers into his ear.
"I'm fine." he says again.
"Pat-"
"I said I am fine." he says through gritted teeth, becoming frustrated at his body for turning against him. The ceremony begins but the only thing Patrick can concentrate on his trying to make sense of the shapes he is seeing.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." he whispers to Ellen. He stands up from his chair and begins to limp to the door. Unfortunately, their table was placed near the front which was a long walk up stairs to the door that leads out of the theater. Halfway up the first set of stairs, his legs give out and he falls to the ground, tumbling back down the stairs. The celebrities around him gasp, catching the attention of almost everyone in the theater. Ellen jumps up, running to his sweating body.
"Call an ambulance." she shouts, tears running down her cheeks, ruining her makeup. She was grateful in her choice of water proof mascara.
She kneels down beside him, taking his face into her hands.
"Pat, wake up." she says, shaking him. She looks around for help. Steve Carrell just happened to be sitting right there and knelt down beside her.
"It looked like he passed out or his legs gave out. I'm sure he will be okay." he says, giving her shoulder a squeeze. A sob escapes her lips and paramedics rush in, rolling a gurney to where Patrick is laying.
"Is there anything I can do?" Steve asks.
"No. Thank you." Ellen says gratefully. They load Patrick onto the gurney and Ellen walks out with the paramedics. Most of the greys anatomy cast follows, ditching the ceremony.
"You guys don't have to leave-"
"We want to." Justin Chambers says.
"Yeah. Jessica Capshaw and Sara Ramirez only stayed to accept our awards if we get one. They really wanted to come too." Chandra says. Ellen smiles, seeing how close the cast is.
"Lets go, I want to be there when he wakes up." Ellen says, grabbing Justin's hand that he held out for her. They run to their cars, driving as fast as they can to the hospital.
