Where to begin... how was I supposed to explain all of this without sounding insane? I guess I would just have to tell her, and she could choose whether to believe me or not.

"Well.. it all started yesterday evening. My family and I were all in the lounge, having a good time. Then I noticed everything fell silent and there was this... weird person standing in front of me, almost demon-like. He had pulsing red eyes and his veins matched. He was so pale that his skin was almost transparent. He gave me ten seconds to get away, luckily I did, but I'm not sure if my family did or not. He tried to kill me but I slipped through the window and ran... then I met you. That's everything... I know you won't believe me but--"

"I do believe you" she replied, without hesitation. A surprised look crossed my face and she must've noticed because she said "I believe you because I know about these sort of things... I've dealt with demons and monsters. This thing that's chasing you, this demon, he won't stop until he's got you or he's dead"

"...What am I going to do?"

"You're going to hunt a demon" she replied. "You know how to shoot a pistol?"

"Yeah, how will that kill a demon though? Are we going to put salt in it?"

"Exactly. But we need to get someplace safe before he catches us. We need to catch him off guard, not the other way around. For now you should get some rest while you still can".

Obediently, I lied down and rested. About half an hour later, I woke up in a cold sweat, breathing roughly but feeling that I was hardly breathing at all. Hazel looked concerned for a second, but before she could ask I interrupted her thought.

"We have to go. Now. He's here" and to my surprise, she started packing up things and we took off. I thought how lucky I was to have stumbled upon her and if it weren't for her then I wouldn't be alive right now. We drove off and stopped by a little snowy town to buy food and some clothing. We got canned goods and a couple extra pairs of socks and gloves.

A small parade came marching buy as we both looked at it with admiration. There was a burnt fire-like smell drifting through the air that mixed with the snow lightly falling from above. The coldness numbed my nose and cheeks to a flushed red, as well as Hazel's. We decided to stay in a small motel off to the side of this little village. It'd seemed so small that is was likely only 500 people were staying in it. It was atop a mountain so it snowed quite often.

Hazel and I walked into the motel and the warmness washed over our bodies. It had a sort of old office smell and slightly like sugar cookies. We sat down on the bed, "Thank you for believing me.." I said.

"No need for thanks, it was the right thing to do. You looked in need of help and who was I to stand by and let you suffer. Sure I was reluctant at first, but I don't regret my decision" She said, smiling warmly in return. We both drifted off to sleep, safe and sound. At least for now...
