The Dragon's Heart

Chapter 5

     Soph got ready for the day as she usually did. Took her shower, did her hair, and she grabbed her things as she left her apartment. She locked the door behind her and breathed.
     "Alright. Forget what happened. It never... happened."
     "What never happened?" A voice asks from behind her.
     "Absolutely no- AH!" She turns and sees Anthony standing there. He looks down at her slightly surprised by the sudden outburst.
     "What? You okay?" Soph pants a little.
     "What are you doing here?!" She yells quietly.
     "I was making sure you were okay." Anthony slightly smiles. Soph looks at him confused.
     "What?! Of course I'm okay! Why wouldn't I be?! Cause some guy I don't even know kissed?! That that SAME GUY happened to be on the news this morning?! Oh I'm just peachy!" She says sarcastically.
     "Oh." Anthony stands there silently for a moment. "Good. I'm glad you're in a good mood." Soph looks up at him slightly upset.
     "Oh you're gonna get on my nerves. YOU KNOW WHAT?! I don't need this. I have shit to do." She walks around him and down the hall to the elevator and Anthony follows close behind her. She sighs and rolls her eyes. "Why are you following me? You stalking me or something? Cause if you are-!" She stops and turns to look at him suddenly, only to meet the feeling of something pressing against her lips. She blushes immensely then pushes him away. She looks down embarrassed as Anthony looks at her.
     "You alright? You look a little red. Are you sick?" Soph shakes her head and quietly replies.
     "Nuh uh," she says under her breath. "Just peachy." She turns back around and starts walking again but quietly this time. He walks behind her and follows close behind.
     "Where are we going first?" He asks from behind her.
     "Volunteer. Animal shelter. Today." She says still embarrassed as she steps into the elevator. Anthony looks at the elevator and hesitates.
     "Why are we riding in this moving metal box?" He scans it slightly unsure if he should trust it.
     "Metal box? It's an elevator. It makes it where you can go up and down faster. Didn't you use it to get up here? The stairs are for employee's only here." She looks at him confused then his eyes widen slightly as an image of an open window flashes in his mind.
     "I uh... snuck up the stairs. Um... cardio?" He smiles awkwardly for a moment then hesitantly steps in. They go to the animal shelter and Anthony looks around at the many different animals.
     "Don't touch anyth-," she looks over to see Anthony who already has 5 different lizards in his hands. He brings then up to his face and his eyes turn dragon and they all line up in his hands and stare at him.
     "The heat lamp is out in his. Her's needs more water. This one needs more grasshoppers in his diet. This little guy needs a new friend in his, he's tired of the small scuba man. And this little one wants ti be adopted soon. He's sad from seeing all his friends leave him." He looks over at Soph as his eyes go back to normal and she stares at him in shock. The guy that owned the pet store was standing beside her and also in shock.
     "Soph... who's your uh... friend?" Soph stares at Anthony.
     "No idea..."
