Kensi's pov
It's been 3 days since Avery kicked Deeks and I out. I rest my head on Deeks's shoulder, and he has his arm around me. Sadie and the kids went home. I close my eyes to rest them.
"Kens." Sam says. I open my eyes. "Avery wants to see you." I get up.
"Ok. Thanks, Sam." I walk to Avery's room. I'm nervous and a little scared. Deeks stayed back. I knock, then open the door.
"Hey, baby." I step in the room and close the door behind me. "Sam, uh, Sam said you wanted to see me?" Avery's lying on the bed, a clean bandage around her chest, and has One Tree Hill on the tv, playing quietly.
"Yea, I umm, Mom, I'm really sorry about what I said."
"No, no. You don't have to apologize. I know it had to be hard to hear that. I also know what being shot can do to you." I know how much it hurts to be shot, and that pain can make you irritable very easily.
"How many times?"
"6."
"Dang. Mom, but, I've thought about how you and Dad have been agents."
"Yea...?" I don't know where this is going.
"You said Dad was one of your clients, and that you all fell in love, got married and had us. How did that story really happen?" I pull up a chair by the side of her bed and sit down.
"Well, I was an agent before your father. NCIS had a case that I met your father working on. At the time I didn't know he was LAPD, and later on I learned he was. Then,We had a case we had to partner with LAPD on. I was without a partner, so your father started being our liaison. Slowly, very slowly I started falling for his charm and witty remarks. We had trouble communicating and once we finally started talking about our "thing," I got a classified case, and had to go to Afghanistan."
"What? You went to Afghanistan?"
"Yea, now do you want to hear the rest of the story or not?" I laugh.
"Well, yea!"
"Ok, the case was to kill the White Ghost. The White Ghost was my ex-fiancé."
"You were engaged to a different person who wasn't Dad?"
"Yea."
"What happened?"
"I woke up Christmas morning one day, and he was just, gone." Tears start forming in my eyes. There's just something about talking about Jack that makes me emotional. "I couldn't shoot him, so I got captured trying to run away, and it was hell. I was tortured and beaten by men, and then the team and your dad came to rescue me. We got back to America, and it became like it was before we started talking about our "thing." A year later, I got tired of playing the games, and told your father how I felt. We agreed to go all in, and officially became a couple. We started staying with each other, and then moved in together. A year and a few months a later, we had to go across seas for a case. We were in a helicopter and it got hit by a missile. The team was ok, but the helicopter landed on me. After that, all I remember was passing out in the desert and then waking up in a hospital room. Paralyzed in my left hand and leg. It was a very dark time." There's a knock at the door. Deeks.
"Can I come in?"
"Sure." Avery says. Deeks comes and stands behind my chair and wraps his arms around my neck.
"But you father never left my side through it all." I rub his hands. "He never left me, no matter how bad I treated him or how moody I got. He proposed while I was in the hospital, but I turned him down."
"What? Dad you just took the no?" Avery asks.
"No, I put the ring back in my pocket, because I knew she was in a really rough place, so I waited."
"A few months later, we had an interesting case. It made me realize we're not promised tomorrow and I decided to propose to him. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, and then we got married. And had Sadie, Elliot, Jayden, you, and Noah. Now we're living our happily ever after."
"Woah. That is my new favorite bedtime story." Avery says. Deeks and I laugh. "Dad, I'm really sorry about what I said."
"Avery, don't apologize to me. You took a bullet for me. I owe you big time."
"So, maybe you could consider letting me have a boyfriend?" She asks.
"Absolutely not." Deeks says. I smack his hands.
"Deeks. what's the worst that could happen?"
"She falls in love, gets married, and moves away."
"Dad. I'd make sure you'd like him."
"Deeks." I say.
"Ok. But I have to like him, and get to know his parents."
"That's not a no." Avery has a huge smile on her face. "It's Sebastian." Avery? Dating Sebastian?
"Sebastian. Like Eric and Nell's son?"
"Yea." I look up at Deeks, and he looks down at me. He looks back at Avery.
"He's a good kid. You have my approval."
