Kensi's POV
Deeks and I have our hands laced together, and my bracelet moves up and down as we walk. Anytime I'm called to Hetty's office, it feels like being called to the principal's office. I'm so nervous. We walk towards Hetty's office. Callen and Anna walk over, also. Sam, Eric, and Nell walk down from ops. We all gather around Hetty's office.
"Mr. and Mrs. Deeks, Callen, and Beale, and Sam. I've called you all here for a reason."
"Ok." Callen says.
"I have decided, over long and careful consideration, that the time has come for me to retire." My eyes widen, and Deeks let's go of my hand. Callen, Anna, Eric and everyone looks surprised.
"But, Hetty. You're like the master of the universe. There's so much left for you to teach me." Deeks says.
"Hetty, who's going to replace you?" Callen asks.
"That's a very good question, Mr. Callen." Hetty states. "The person who will replace me, is you."
"What?" Callen's eyes grow huge. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"Over the many years I've watched you work, I feel you would fit comfortably in my job."
"Congrats man!" Sam says, bro hugging Callen.
"Babe, congrats!" Anna states, and then hugs and kisses him. We all congratulate Callen, and give him hugs.
"Excuse me." Hetty says. We all get quiet and look to her. "I also have noticed we all have been aging, and we all don't need to be doing this job very longer. So, you all are the best agents I've ever seen, and I have decided you would train the next generation of NCIS agents."
"That's awesome, Hetty." Anna says. "But who are they?"
"The best of the best." Hetty states. "You're children." Nell's, Anna's, and my eyes are wide open.
"You mean like Sadie, Elliot, Jayden, Avery, and Noah?"
"Paislee Joy?"
"And Sebastian?"
Deeks grabs my hand, as Eric and Callen do to their wifes' hands.
"Hetty, I'm not so sure I want to train my kids to be an NCIS agent." I say. Anna walks towards me.
"Me either. Hetty, Paislee Joy is a 5th grader."
"I'm well aware of their ages. The children will start their training as soon as they graduate. I trust they will make their own decision on whether to join Mr. Callen's team or not." Hetty says. "However, it is never to early to start their training. They can train after school and on the weekends to become an agent and will take the NCIS agent fitness test as soon as they graduate."
"We'll talk with our kids, together." Callen says, looking at us, "And they will have the final say in their future."
"You all may have the rest of the day off to celebrate Mr. Callen's promotion." Hetty says, and then walks away."Well, drinks on me?" Sam offers.
"Sam, it's 1pm." Nell says.
"Ok, tonight then?" He asks. We all look at each other nodding.
"Sounds like a plan." Callen says.
---
We just got home from celebrating Callen's promotion, and I was the designated driver. Deeks and I dropped everybody off at their houses, and met back at our place. I change into shorts and a t shirt, and start getting ready for bed. A pair of arms wrap around my waist and I lean into the warmth.
"So, remember how I forgot our anniversary a couple months ago?" I ask.
"Yes. It still hurts." He loosens his arms and I turn around and punch him. "Ow. What was that for?"
"Don't make a joke." I walk over to my closet, and pull out a bag.
"What's in the bag?" Deeks smirks.
"Your favorite." I hand him the bag.
"You got me a cronut?" He smiles.
"Yup. I know how much you love them and I got so distracted in our crazy, chaotic lives and the whole thing with Avery and the kids getting kid-" Deeks lips touch mine and stop me from talking.
"Kens. I lied." He says as we break apart.
"What?"
"I lied." He smiles. I take my fist and punch his chest harder this time.
"Deeks."
"Kensi."
"You lied. How'd you get the team to go along?"
"I told them that I wanted to surprise you."
"Surprise me with what?" He pulls out a little black box. He opened it, and it shows two golden charms.
"Deeks. What's this?"
"I was going through a box that was going to go in the attic after we moved a couple months ago, and I found your father's Commendation Medal at the bottom of it. It was all dusty and dirty, so I cleaned it up and took it to a welder. I had him spend weeks on this charm for your bracelet, because it's one of the most important ones. He remade the design from the medal on the charms, and the ribbon it's in the box in is the Commendation ribbon from the medal. One for your bracelet and one for the box to go in your memory drawer. And I never knew the perfect time to give it to you, and so I'm giving it to you now." He hands me the box. My eyes start to water, and my heart fills with joy.
"Deeks. This is the most thoughtful thing anyone's ever given me. Thank you." I hug him, and get up on my tiptoes and kiss him. "Then why did Callen give me a charm?" He smiles.
"That my friend, is a charm that I found on the bathroom sink. The one that says, oh I don't know, 2.24.18 finally forever."
"What?" I look down at my bracelet, next to the K and it's not there. It's at the end, next to the Noah charm Deeks and I got when he was born.
"Deeks. So that's why you wanted to have fun with it." I say.
"Indeed I did." He laughs.
"Touché."
