I drank syrup
that stuck with bubbles
next to a fan
that blew cool air.

I hadn't slept
and I felt the chill on my neck.

That was when the heartbreak hit,
with a sharp pain that spread
across my chest to put me to bed,
dreaming better dreams
where I didn't get those feelings.

Burning numbness,
destructive hearing
and the sense of utter bless.

if I knew it could be like this
i would have asked for the let down
to be more of a crash than a whisper,
less than a favor to my heart
that wanted its punishment in full,
not in small token trinkets
of sorry and wait.
