Chapter 2

After hours of being on the run I couldn’t hear anything anymore and I knew more or less that I was far enough to sop running and find a place to spend the night.

I slowed down my pace and started to walk when finally I could hear what could have been a waterfall. After going a few steps there in front of me was what could have been a little sort of meadow with a little waterfall. That’s when I started to look for some branches and rocks to make a fire. I went and took my clothes off and went into the water and started to clean my self, trying to clean as much blood and mud from myself as I could. When I was done I went and swam a little bit. Then I put my clothes back on. Then went and sat next to the fire and ate some fish that I caught in the lake. When I was done I went and extinguiId the fire. I took a good look around at the trees and finally found a tree that looked safe and comfortable enough to lie on it. I climbed it and when I was sitting as comfortably and safely as I could, I let myself go into a light sleep to re-energise myself.

I was woken up by a ray of sun hitting me on my face and birds singing. For a brief moment I forgot all the events that happened last night.

But I knew that I had to snap out of it and to try to find some sort of civilization. I climbed down from the tree and went to the waterfall and put my hands into the water, and that’s when the most horrible and terrifying thing happened. It was as if electricity shots ran through my hands and into the water and you could see all the fish as well as the animals that were living in the water dead on the surface. I removed my hands quickly from the water and I could see electricity circuits running through my hands. I was getting more and more scared not knowing what was happening to me. I got up and started to walk to get as far as I could from there.

After walking miles and miles I could see lights coming out from houses and ran towards them hoping there would be some sort of civilization.

Finally I arrived to the welcoming sign of a little village named Preston. The first store that I saw was a clothes store. I went in and tried to go unnoticed. I went through the racks to try and find something that was cheap as I only had twenty pounds. I took a pair of skinny jeans and a white three quarter shirt and a little jacket and a pair of black gloves and went into the dressing room. When I had changed, I went and took a look at the mirror. They looked good on me. As I looked at the price tags I knew that I couldn’t buy them but I need them - especially the gloves.

So I went and took the gloves off and could see that the electricity was still running through my hands so I went and approached the electricity box making sure that I was out of sight of the cameras when I was next to the box I opened it and placed my bare hand on the panel. That’s when suddenly all the lights and the cameras turned off.

So I quickly took my stuff and ran out from the store and what especially helped me get out unnoticed was that the lady in charge of the store didn’t see me come in and there was no bell or security on the door.

As soon as I was out I went into an ally and dumped my bloodied clothes in a dumpster and went into a diner but before going in I put my hood on. That wouldn’t look weird since it had started to rain

I sat in a booth and took a menu. That’s when the waitress approached me.

“Hello, I’m Amy and I will be your waitress tonight. What will it be?”

“I’ll have a chicken burger with some coffee”

“All right if that is all I will be right back with your order.”

And with that she left. I sat there and thought of what to do now. I didn’t have any place to go because it was out of the question going back home since I’d have to answer a lot of questions and couldn’t answer them since I didn’t understand what was happening to me. So the only thing that was left for me to do was to start a new life since I was getting short of money.

So with that idea in mind I waited for the waitress to come back so I could ask her. A short while later she came back with my order

“Here you go a chicken burger with some coffee. If you need anything else just ask “

As she was turning to go back to serve another table I said

“Do you by any chance know if they are hiring anybody nearby?”

“Well you’re in luck because just this morning in a clothes shop not far from here, the owner of the store put a help-wanted sign. You know with her being old and her condition you could see it coming.”

“What condition?”

“Well she is blind “

When she said those worlds I could feel the guilt in me getting bigger and bigger.

“And where is the shop?”

“Oh it’s the one just next to this diner “

That’s when the guilt inside of me quickly became shame knowing that I had robbed an old blind lady.

“Is that all?”

“Umm… yes thank you”

As soon as I was finished and paid, I left the diner and went to the store hoping to make it up to her in some way if it was the only thing that I was going to do.
