Three months had passed since the first day that I arrived in Preston. I continued living at Lucy’s house and working at her shop. Every Friday night John would come and have dinner in our house. Lucy got fed up with me calling it her house since I had the same right as her to call it my house, and the gossip about me quietened down after a while.

I would entertain myself by watching Lucy and john acting like teenagers since it was clear to everybody that the two of them were completely in love with each other, and each evening I would try to control my power and it was another way to avoid sleep.

I could stay days without sleeping because of the nightmares that I would have that would make me wake up in my own sweat, and it would get worse as the days passed by.

It was like any other day in this boring old place and I was sitting at the counter making sure that nothing happened. It was unlikely that something would happen. The most exciting thing that happened was me coming to this town and the electricity turning on and off since I came.

I was just placing some clothes on the racks when suddenly the rain started to fall heavily.

“Really it had to rain today that’s just great. How can this day get any worse? First I wake up with a bad felling and tell Lucy to stay home. Then all the gossip women - that’s what I call all the gossips that there are in this town - came and didn’t stop pestering me, and now this. Great. It’s just great”

I quickly tuned the lights off and made sure that the cameras were working. I closed the door and went outside. I put my jacket on and hugged it tighter round me to try and protect myself from the rain and the cold.

Finally I got home, all the time feeling as if someone was watching me. I went in and quickly closed the door. I was trying to dry myself off as best I could, when suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder and I let out a loud piercing scream. I quickly turned around and there stood Lucy with a shocked look on her face and full of regret.

“Oh god, I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to scare you like that”

After getting my fast heart beat back to normal, I looked at her and said, “Don’t worry it’s not your fault it’s just that I’ve been really jumpy today, and I have a bad feeling. I should have imagined that it was you”

“You’ve felt it as well, since yesterday night I felt as if something bad or good I don’t know was going to happen. That’s why when you opened the door, I went down making as little sound as possible to make sure that it was you.”

“Oh you know let’s just go to the kitchen have some soup to try and calm down.”

I took hold of her arms and led her to the kitchen carefully. After making some soup and both eating it in complete silence but at the same time being aware of our surroundings. When we were done each of us went to our bedrooms.

It was some time in the middle of the night when I heard a loud crash outside, got startled out of my slumber and ran to Lucy’s room to make sure that she was alright. She was sitting on her bed scared and with a terrifying look.

“Are you alright?”

“Yes I’m fine but what was that noise?

“I don’t know, it came from the garden. I’ll go and take a look. Don’t leave this room alright?”

“Fine but please don’t go out”

“I have to. Don’t worry I’ll be careful”

And with those words I went, took my jacket and was about to put my gloves on but finally decided not to, as a means of protection. But just in case I put them in my pockets.

Once inside, and after making sure that the door was safely closed, I headed towards the garden making sure I didn’t make a lot of noise, and making sure to look at my surroundings carefully to look for any movement.

I was just about to go back inside when I saw in between the buIs the body of a boy about my age lying on the floor. I quickly ran toward him and all I could see was blood everywhere. I quickly took a deep breath, put on my gloves and checked his pulse.

I could feel a faint one so I quickly went and took him in my arms as best as I could, without jolting him much and went to the house.
