"Hamilton told me you were crushing on a Jefferson, but I didn't think it was this extreme." Eacker said as Lafayette came waltzing into his house, humming some upbeat song, Laurens behind him. (He's humming Helpless.)

"Jefferson took me out to lunch today! And he's so cute when he laughs, and he's so handsome, and his accent is just-" Lafayette rambled on before Eacker interrupted him.

"But I thought you were only in America temporarily to visit Hamilton and his family. What will happen when you go back to France?" Eacker asked.

Lafayette's smitten smile dropped into a frown and he stopped dancing around the kitchen.

"Oh no, you broke him." Laurens said, adjusting her hair in the mirror above the kitchen sink "Are you ok, Laf?"

"We can write letters to each other." Lafayette decided, his happy mood returning "Or I can smuggle him onto the ship when I leave."

Lafayette returned to humming his song and dancing around the kitchen.

"On the topic of crushes," Laurens said, taking a seat at the table with Eacker "how are you and Hamilton doing?"

Eacker felt the blood rush to his face when he realized what Laurens was implying. "We're not in a relationship! It's not like that! We're just friends!" He stammered out.

"Please, honey, he told me about they play you brought him to." Laurens said, leaning back in her seat "I mean, I love my friends, no matter how annoying they get" -she gestured to Lafayette, still dancing and humming- "but I just don't spend money on getting them seats at plays, especially seats so close to the stage. This is sounding less and less like friendship, and more like you're courting him."

"That's not true!" Eacker argued "I was just making it up to him!"

"Whatever you say, Eacker. But even if you aren't dancing and humming like you belong on Broadway, I still see your feelings for him." Laurens said, standing up.

"I don't-" Eacker started.

"You do like him, and no matter how much you deny it, your feelings are still there. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm meeting Theodosia for coffee, and bringing this mess home."

With that, Laurens hooked arms with Lafayette's and pulled him out the door, leaving Eacker to his thoughts and feelings.
