Chapter 1

"Alright, for this project, I will have to resign you partners." The teacher said. I was in science class and she was giving us our end of the year projects to work on. I was not paying much attention and was writing in my jurnal instead. I looked up when she said my name.
"Hope West and Ethan Diaz. Cass and-" I stopped paying attention again. Ethan was my best freinds brother. He didn't talk to me much for some reason but I was completely clueless as to why. He stood up from his seat and sat down beside me since no one used to sit there.
"Hey." He whispered when he sat down. I smiled but didn't look at him and kept writing. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing important." I whisper.
"Everyone get started. And work out going to each other's house or hanging out. You will not be able to finish the whole thing in class." The teacher said. I closed my book and put it in my purse.
"Should we get started?" I ask looking at him.
"Sure." He said. We worked for about twenty minutes before he spoke off topic. "Um, you come by my house all the time. Do you think you could ever get work done there?"
"Probably not, but I could try." I say smiling. I loved being in the Diaz's noisy house because it was the opposite of my quiet one, but I could never get something done there unless Harley was helping me.
"No, I can barely get work done myself, so where would you want to work?" He asked.
"Um, my house is pretty quiet. Only my dog and I." I say.
"That works. I love dogs." He said smiling.
"Ok. What time?"
"Does right after school work? Once I'm home, it's hard to leave again."
"Yeah that works." I say laughing a little bit. The bell rings and it was the last class of the day so we both grabbed our stuff. We walked outside the school and saw Harley.
"Hey, Harley." I say when we get to her.
"Hey, Hope. Hey Ethan." She said. She was smiling and had a weird look on her face. She wasn't looking at us and looking at something else instead. I follow her eye sight and see a group of boys hanging out on the bottom of the stairs.
"Ohhh. Which one?" I tease nudging her with my elbow.
"What? Nothing! I wasn't looking at anyone!" She exclaimed tearing her eyes away to look at me.
"I was kidding." I say laughing. Ethan was too. "No, for real which one?" I ask continues the joke.
"I'm not telling." She said crossing her arms.
"Ok, then I'll just go over there and ask them to come over here to talk to you." I say taking a step forward.
"NO!!" She yelled gaining everyone's attention and they all looked at her. She had grabbed my arm to pull me back. She smiled shyly and they all looked around while I smirked and laughed when they went back to what they were doing.
"Harley, Hope and I have a project to work on. We are going to her house. Can you tell Mom for me?" Ethan said when he recovered from laughing.
"Sure." She said. Rachel had come out with Georgie.
"Then we should go before they remind me of something. Bye!" He said to her. He grabbed my wrist without warning and pulled me off to my house.
"Bye!" She called before we were out of sight.
"Ethan!" I say when we were far enough from them. His hand had slid from my wrist to my hand and it looked like we were holding hands now.
"Sorry. I didn't want them to say anything." He said taking his hand away and scratching the back of his neck.
"I get it, but you didn't have to grab my wrist." I say holding it in my other hand and rubbing it.
"Did I hurt you? I'm so sorry! I didn-"
"Its fine. It didn't hurt that bad." I intrupt him. He looked relieved.
"Good. Um, continue now?" He asked signaling to keep walking.
"Yeah. Let's go."
