This one-shot is set after Skybound. I wrote it before DotD, so some details don't really fit in the canon timeline anymore.

The room was silent, except for the heartbreaking sound of Kai's desperate sobbing.

The red ninja was tightly hugging his sister and crying into her shoulder, while Nya was trying to comfort him. "It's okay." She whispered to him, gently rubbing his back. "I am here. None of this has actually happened. I promise I won't disappear."

Their teammates were awkwardly looking at them. They had never seen Kai in tears before. Or, rather, most of them did not remember seeing him cry.

But Jay did remember that the red ninja had not cried as badly, when, in the erased timeline, Nya had been killed by the tiger widow venom. Not that he had paid much attention to any of his teammates. He had been way too devastated at that time.

Jay sometimes wished that he could forget the image of her pale and lifeless face. But he knew that it would haunt him for the rest of his life. And the only thing that helped him deal with his memories was a warm and very much alive smile from his girlfriend.

But even with Nya by his side, it had been hard for the blue ninja to relive the whole ordeal once again. And not just for him.

The Masters of Water and Lightning had finally decided to tell their teammates and friends about the events that had, well, not taken place a few weeks ago.

They were currently sitting in the comfortable living area of their new headquarters, the luxurious Gordon Mansion. Earlier that evening, they had enjoyed a wonderful dinner, expertly prepared by Zane in the spacious and well equipped kitchen. When Nya and Jay had asked them to have their desserts on the sofas instead of at the dining table, their friends had given them suspicious looks and jokingly made guesses as to what the two were going to tell them.

But they had certainly not expected to hear this. And although the story was hard to believe, suddenly it had all made sense... why, all of a sudden, Nya had known Airjitzu on the hospital roof, why from one moment to the next she and Jay had gone from arguing to getting back together, why all of them had had this strange feeling of Déjà Vu...

But most of all, they had been shocked to hear how close they had come to losing their good friend, honorary sister, and valued teammate. And Kai's only family member he had left.

From the moment he had learned about Nya dying in the other timeline, Kai hadn't said a single word. He had just silently looked at his sister, fighting back the tears. But eventually, he had completely broken down and started crying.

Wanting to give the siblings some space, Cole pulled Jay, Zane, and Lloyd aside.

"So, you knew you were adopted, even before your parents gave you the letter?" He asked his best friend. "I have to say I was very surprised that you didn't freak out when you learned about your birth father and your inheritance."

"I've known since... well, since I got the letter the first time." Jay explained. "The day after we were at the hospital, I even tried to contact Cliff Gordon, but... it was too late. He... was already gone. It... it was a stroke. I mean I was kind of relieved that Nadakhan hadn't killed him because of my wish, but still... I would have liked to meet him. Even though my real parents are still the amazing people who raised me."

His friend was impressed. "Wow, you've really grown up."

"Well, to be fair, I've had a bit of time to get used to it." Jay replied with a lopsided grin. "Believe me, I acted wayyy differently the other time."
