This one shot is for JamesDyson123 who requested a Jaya Royal AU with Nya as Royal.

I absolutely love medieval and/or Royal AUs (btw, please check out Dissmisery 's great new book!), but I wanted to try something different here. So, this is still a Royal AU story but set in modern times 😉!

Just a few notes/credits - Jay and Seliel are siblings here (twins actually), I got the idea of Seliel reading teen magazines from The_lightning_ninja 's book 'Enmity', and the first scene (how they meet) was inspired by the movie 'Notting Hill' 😊.

Like the previous two 'one shots', this can be seen as an opening chapter to a longer story, so please let me know in the comments if you want me to continue. This was the last draft I had written during my holidays (I always spend a lot of time editing - 8K of drafts turned into over 11.5K of final chapters!), so I'll need to start writing new stuff again now!

A Royal Encounter

There were two things that would always amaze her whenever she would come to Ninjago City: One, how huge everything was her compared to her hometown. And two – that she was able to go for a little stroll around town without people constantly recognising her.

Princess Antonia 'Nya' of Ignacia had accompanied her brother on this official state visit – which was mostly just an excuse for Prince Kai to spend time with Skylor, the Crown Princess of Ninjago – and, after attending way many functions and official visits, she finally had a free afternoon while Kai and King Chen were negotiation new trade agreements between the two Kingdoms.

And as she liked to do when away from home, the nineteen-year old princess had gone out to explore the city on her own.

Well, on her own wasn't entirely true. Her bodyguards would always stay close by, of course, and a tracker had been installed into her favourite golden bracelet.

But still, right now she could at least pretend to be a normal person on holidays. And she – or rather her PA who had set up the schedule – had even picked a beautiful day for this endeavour.

Adorned in a simple white summer dress, chocolate brown eyes hidden behind dark mirrored sunglasses, and the long black hair tied in a high ponytail rather than the elegant bun she was usually known for, Nya was strolling through a part of the city that her brother would probably not approve of.

But earlier this week, when visiting a primary school in this area, the princess had noticed a secluded little park being close by that had piqued her interest. If only she could remember where exactly.

In search of any sign or clue, Nya kept turning her head and-

"Ouff." She had walked right into someone.

"I-I am so sorry, Miss." The other person apologised in a squeaky voice. Quickly making sure that her sunglasses were still in place, Nya turned her head to look at them.

It was a young man, maybe a year or two older than herself. He had short auburn hair and piercing blue eyes that were wide open in shock. "I was in a hurry and-"

Nya gave him a practiced smile. "It's alright." She assured him. "It was my fault, I wasn't paying any attention."

"That may be, but it's my coffee on your dress now." He replied. Nya looked down and indeed, the front of her formerly white dress had was covered all over with an ugly brown stain, embellished with a few white slimy speckles – cream, obviously. He sighed. "At least the frappuccino couldn't burn you – just hope it wasn't too cold. But it's ruined your dress. Coffee stains are the worst; believe me I know what I'm talking about. And-" he blushed. "I-I am sorry for staring at your chest."
