CHAPTER THIRTEEN
I took a deep breath, preparing myself for the worst. Skipping days of teaching with no warning or response to owls. I probably got at least eight letters in thick, smooth cream colored parchment that I tossed aside gloomily, lost in my room. The owl that delivered Ben wasn't very nice, either. Taking another second, knowing the Headmistress would surely give me a good scolding and some sort of punishment, I lightly rapped my knuckles along the doors wooden plate.
A second later it flew open, and a flustered-looking Minirva McGonagal stood in the frame. A moment after opening the door, she gave a sigh of relief and pulled me in. "Come in, come in. You have no idea what these past few days have been like." She muttered in her elderly, strict voice. But I could sense an underlying tone of worry there. What had been going on since I left, exactly? I walked inside and she shut the door, quickly pacing back to her desk and taking a seat. She waved her hand at the chairs before the desk, looking at me impatiently. "Take a seat, dear." She told me, and I obeyed.
She folded her hands in front of her on the desk top, sighing again, though this time with more disdain and tire. "Since you've been gone, Severus has taken over your class." She told me. Okay, so I knew that would have happened. Is that it? I mean, it wouldn't be it. It takes a lot to get her all riled up. I raised an eyebrow at her. "And...?" I pressed.
"And, the Ministry isn liking it at all. His return, I mean. It just isn't right." She replied, her feathers in a fluff. Ouch. I guess I should have seen this one coming. I felt bad for stowing away like I had and having her deal with it all while I wallowed in gloom. I rubbed he back of my neck. "I'm sorry Headm-"
"That's not why I'm upset." She quickly intervened. I stopped, blinking in surprise. It's not? "Not all why, at least." She added.
I leaned forward in my seat, hands gripping the armchairs. If the Ministry snooping around was t why she had her panties in a wad... Then what was? What could be worse than that? Surely not...
But she said nothing, and it only made the tension worse and my unease higher. My nails dug into the upholstery of the chair. "Minirva, please!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening. If she was this cautious about telling me and was this worked up... It had to be something bad for me. Something that was bad for her, but even worse for me. Which means there were only two people this could be about. Jumping to my feet, I could feel the seriousness of the situation grab me. "Is it Nox?" I demanded.
She rubbed her temples and shoo her head. My brow stitched together in confusion. "Then..." I don't see how Severus could have done anything that bad... And I don't see what he could have done. "Is he okay?" I whispered, not even meaning for my voice to be so quiet. She shook her head again, and I fell back Ito the chair, a small whimper escaping my mouth. A numbness fell through me. I didn't even get to have him back. I didn't even get to kiss him...
"He isn't dead, Claudinia." She spoke up. Me head shot up, eyes still bleary. "He... He isn't?" I squeaked. She shook her head, and the fog over me lifted. "Then what is it?"
She straightened her glasses. "Do you remember when you set to school here, and you and him had a..." She sighed again, obviously struggling for the words to say. I nodded, understanding what she meant. "Yes, how could I possibly forget?" I responded.
"He seems to be reliving that experience." She explained slowly, her tone careful and precise. I struggled for words. What did she mean, 'reliving'? If he was reliving our experiance... Then maybe he was looking for me... I gasped a small breath and felt a hopeful smile spread across my face as I jumped up. "Finally... He knows-!"
"Not with you." She quickly said, her strict voice snapping like a mouse trap, so fast I barely heard it. It took me a moment to understand what she had said, and I stood there, frozen, mulling it over. He was with someone else. Not me. Another woman.
