Chapter 19

Katniss' POV

It feels better knowing that my family and Peeta's know about...yeah.

But there's still one more person I dread telling.

Gale.

--------

I still smiled at the memories of last night, after everyone knew. Prim of course had to apologize to Peeta, who accepted with a big grin. We spent the rest of the evening just chatting amongst ourselves.

I woke up and after realizing I was the first one up and quietly got dressed and went for a quick hunt/walk. I smiled as the forest came into view and as I slid under the fence, which was a bit harder than usual. I crossed the field and to the set of trees and logs where my bow and quiver of arrows were hidden. I quietly fished them out and walked in the direction of the lake, where the most animals were at this point in time.

I peek around the wide tree I chose to stand behind. No animals in sight... My head turns quickly to the direction of a sound. The sound of leaves crinkling and crunching. I spot a two deer and raise my bow. I slowly and quietly load it with one arrow and point it at the direction of one of the deer. The deer was a solid brown color and was pretty fair in size. Greasy Sae would love it... The deer looks around and never seems to spot me. I take a deep breath, close my eyes briefly, and shoot. The arrow punctures it's neck, where a valuable vein is. It's not my best shot ever but at least I got something.

I grab the deer and put it in my game bag as I look around for the other deer. It must've ran pretty far. I go back to where my bow and quiver are usually hidden, shove them back in and head to the hob. It takes me about 10 minutes or so to get there...considering I can't exactly walk as fast.

Once I reach the hob, I head in Greasy Sae's direction.

"Katniss. What brings you here today?" She asks.

"I caught some pretty decent game. I thought you'd like it."

"Oh yes..what is it?"

"Deer." I say as I pull it out.

"Wonderful. So much meat! Thank you,Katniss. Can I get you anything?"

"I'm good. Thank you though."

"No, thank you." She smiles.

I return the smile and head back to the village. My house still seems dark so I decide to drop off my stuff and check on Haymitch. I jog over to his house and knock on the wooden door.

"Haymitch!" Of course there's no answer. He's most likely passed out. I harshly open the door and step in. His house looked a little better, but the smell remained. I covered my nose with my jacket as I searched the house for Haymitch. I find him asleep on the couch with a halfway empty bottle. I groan and try to shake him awake. When that doesn't work, I take the bottle out of his hand. Surprisingly, he jolts awake with a groan and a couple shakes.

"What are you doing?!" He exclaims.

"Checking to make sure you're still alive!" I snap.

He laughs. "Snappy,are we today?"

I shake my head set the bottle on the side table.

"Thanks for your concern, sweetheart. But it's better if would just leave."

"Fine." I growl as I stomp out and back to my house. I find Prim petting Buttercup, who hisses as I step in, and my mother sorting medicines.

"Katniss, where were you?"
