she was reading when he first passed by. he wore a grey full sleeved tee, reaching till his palms, and getting scrunched up between his long fingers, she was in her pajama shorts that had palm trees and blue paint drops plastered all over. while she was nodding her head along to the music blasting through her earphones, he was lying straight on his stomach, letting the freshly cut grass tickle him. charlie had just asked for a milkshake from sam when he noticed her. sitting cross-legged on a towel covered bench, in her palm tree pajama's, reading a worn out paperback, smiling - either to the song or the book. his neck was starting to ache, having been in that twisted-neck position for 2 minutes straight, yet he continued to look. there was something about her that felt as if he was watching a movie. he had never seen anyone look so absorbed in their book, in their music, just so long in their own world. not being able to take it anymore, he rolled over to his back first, cracked his knuckles, got up, stretched his back. taking a deep breath, he walked over to her.

"your music it too loud."

"i'm sorry - what?"
