::Chapter XII::
One Must Adapt
The light of the morning sun overtook the left side of Katy's face. She could hear the little tweets of baby birds as they wait for their mother to return with their morning meal. Sigh. Today was the day. They day when it all happened. The death of her parents, losing her baby sister. The day she fell into the clutches of her worst nightmare. She sat in the edge of the bed thinking till hearing a knock at the door. Katy could feel warmth seeping from the other side, a little hotter than usual. Werewolf. But it wasn't Seth. Seth had more of a huge presence and effect on her. This figure was definitely a her. The knocking got loud as Katy reached for the knob to open the door. The knocking stopped and she heard feet shuffling. Katy opened the door and found the lady walking away. The lady turned back to face her and her eyes widened. She cleared her throat and approached Katy.
"Oh. I knew you were awake." She smiled softly. You can see the resemblance. The cool blue eyes and the soft lips. Katy couldn't stop herself from smiling back.. It was her. Seth's mother. She had to be. Katy held the door open and she walked in. "My son told me that you had lost your voice temporarly, through the accident." Katy heard her intake of breath before she continued. "I came to tell you that there's breakfast downstairs, darling. You must be famished." Katy nodded slowly. The lady's smile widened. "There's alot downstairs if you're hungry, but hurry before the boys eat it all like the pigs thy are" She chuckled and turned to leave out the door after softly patting her on the back. "You can use the bathroom down the corridor to freshen up." Katy felt tears stinging her dry eyes. Seth's mother reminded her of her own mother so much. No, I shouldn't be crying. I should make best of the day. After all, I wasn't under Nick's wing anymore. I should find m y own place and manage on my own. I can't risk endangering these people. I can't risk losing anyone anymore. Katy quickly wiped her tears away.
Now, where was that bathroom she was talking about? Down the corridor, ha? Katy walked and opened the door to find Seth bottle feeding Ava. "Oh, hey Katy. I see someone is feeling better a nap." He said with a grin. She slowly nodded and turned determined to find the bathroom til hearing Ava. "Mama." The baby girl giggled and gave out an excited shrill. She directed her hands at Katy, motioning her to pick her up. That word had Katy's heart burning and her eyes prickling with tears. Katy quickly dashed to the bathroom and heard her baby cry. Ava, I'm sorry, sweetie.
Seth found himself amazed as his baby girl turned to Katy with her arms extended. He has been trying to get her say daddy for months and her first word is for not even her real mother. Well, Katy is basically her mother. At least she care about Ava more than Cassidy, her real mother did. Seth felt a heartfelt proud of his baby girl. He watched Katy run out of the room. He could barely see the wet gloss on her eyes. He now had a new resolve. It wasn't to separate himself from Katy. More like gently cocoon himself to her and keep her there, safely. Both his baby girl and Seth were determined to break the barrier to her heart and pulverize it. Seth softly rocked Ava to calm her and get her to stop crying. "It's alright baby girl, mommy will come to you all on her own soon. Trust daddy."
After a massaging, hot shower, Katy placed herself in clothes which Seth's mother, Rene, has been kind enough to give her. It was one of Seth's blue sweaters with black stripes and a pair of dark-blue leggings. The sweater was oversized and gave off his smell. Katy also had learned that his favorite color was blue but recently he had taken a liking to green. {A/N: For those who couldn't figure it out, Katy's eyes are green.} After dressing, Katy combed her tangled, black hair and placed it in a wet ponytail. She headed down to the kitchen where she saw everyone eating, including Ava, strapped into her high chair. Katy chuckled quietly seeing Seth trying to feed Ava. He was getting food everywhere but her mouth. Her quiet chuckling captured everyone's attention and their heads turned Katy's way. Damn the werewolf hearing. "Oh, come eat with us, K." Said Cale getting overly familiar with Katy's name. She nodded as she skipped over and sat in a chair at the table. Everyone was still staring at her, especially Seth's father, with his stormy blue eyes and with his face a little pale. Katy wondered if he's alright. Seth's mother, Rene, also came in sat with us but not before placing a huge platter of fried chicken on the table. Katy grabbed herself one and tore her way in. It's been quite sometime since she had any kind of meat. When she was done, Rene piled more food onto her plate.
"Eat more, hon. You need a lot of strength to deliver alpha babies." Katy's eyes widened at her little remark and Seth's father coughed while choking on his food. He drank a glass of water in a gulp and narrowed his eyes at Rene {A/N: Pronounced like Reen}. "I need to talk with you, Irene Henderson." "Ooh. Mom's in trouble." Cale mocked like a little boy. "Shut it, Caelius." His mother mocked back. What an unusual yet fun family. They walked away and Cale continues eating with his gaze still lingering on Katy. Seth left to wash the remaining dishes. Ava started giggling and called, "Mama." Katy stood up abruptly and turn to leave when Ava started hiccuping and crying uncontrollably. Katy's heart ached. She knew she would have done the same thing if her mother ignored Katy. But in this case Katy wasn't Ava's mother and no one can explain it to her at this age. Katy grabbed Ava and ran to her room. "Hey, that's my baby you're kidnapping." Seth shouted amusingly as he dropped the plate he was cleaning to chase them. Good job Ava. Step 1 of plan capture Katy's heart is completed.
Katy quickly ran to her room. Along the way, Ava had stopped crying and her excited cries joined Katy's laughter, echoing throughout the hallways. Katy flopped on to her bed backwards with Ava on her stomach, still giggling. Ava was pouncing up and down on her chest and Katy couldn't help but laugh with her. Katy leaned over and kissed her soft, red cheeks. When she rested her back against the pillow, she could see Seth standing by the door way with his arm crossed and a grin sporting his handsome face. "I can't believe you stole her first word." He said as an adorable pout took over his full pink lips.
Katy grabbed a piece of paper and wrote, "And I can't believe you're actually letting me hold her. The last time I did, you nearly murdered me, you pig face." She folded it into an airplane and threw it at him. He unfolded after catching and read her neat cursive writing. His eyes raised up slowly from the paper and a another wide smile broke out of face. "Oh, baby girl. You're in trouble." He approached closer and tickled Katy. She laughed and laughed until he even taught Ava to tickle.
Eugene, Seth's father, led his wife away from the dining room into his office. "What's wrong , Eue?" {A/N: Pronounced as You then the letter e.} Rene asked as he closed the door behind her. "Doesn't she look familiar to you, Rene?" He asked her. "Yeah. I thought so when I first saw her. Why? Is she someone we know?" She stopped and started to pace. "Who? Who? Who?" She kept on pacing. "Do you remember the little girl Will and Lauri had?" He asked her, she stopped and stared at her with her bright blue eyes widely. "You mean, Oh my god. Didn't.. Didn't they die?" Her eyes started to water. She knew Lauren from way back. They were childhood friends. Eugene met Lauren before he met Rene. He was also dating Lauren from before. They had separated understandingly, when Lauren's best and childhood friend, Rene, ended up being Eugene's mate. After a while, Lauren's mate ended up being William, one of Eugene's best-est friends. Funny how fate works, ha? "I- I don't think so." Eugene whispered as he comforted his soft heart-ed wife. "But weren't their daughter named Hecate?" She looked at him with her teary eyes. "They renamed her Katy for some reason. And I don't think its a coincidence that they are both named Katy." He spoke with an even softer tone. "She has her mother's looks and her father's eyes, Eue." She said after burying her head on his chest and sobbing. "Yeah, we should talk to her. Maybe we can find out where Lucy and Clarence is."
