"Teddy, wake up! It's almost 7 o'clock." Today was my first day at a brand new high school. In a brand new town.

My mother was offered a promotion and it required her to move out to California, and of course I had to come with her. I was psyched in the beginning but a few days after being here, Cali lost it's vibe. This city isn't what everyone has made it to be. Instead of the sun shine and palm trees, I get overcrowded streets, overly polluted air, and obnoxious human beings.

I would so rather be back in Wyoming living with my uncle, but my mom wouldn't have it. Something about him being so much like my dad.

"Teddy, you have 10 minutes! You're so lucky we got a place close to the school."

I run my comb through my loose waves one last time before gathering my things and meeting my mother in the kitchen. I wasn't looking forward to meeting a whole lot of new people but I'm sure I'll at least find one or two. "Lets go!" I yell slipping on a pair of sandals next to the front door.

"Hold on you need some breakfast." I groan turning around to face my mother. "I'll grab something from school."

"You sure?" I never understand why she was so strict on eating breakfast. I feel the same with or without it.

"Yes, mother, I'm sure. Let's go." I pull the front door open and breath in a deep breath of the polluted air. I throw my stuff on the dashboard to slide into the compact car.

I would much rather drive myself to school, I have my license and my own car, but mother doesn't want me to drive to school just yet. I don't blame her, I don't have the patience to fight traffic in the mornings.

"You seem excited."

"Not really. I just want to get this day over with." To say I was nervous was an understatement. I was nervous to the point my fingers were starting to shake. But who wouldn't be nervous on their first day at a new school?

"I was wanting to ask you what you want for dinner. We can have Mexican, Italian or even Chinese if you want." I bet she could tell I was uneasy about how today was going to go.

"Mexican sounds good to me." I reach over to the multiple knobs and buttons on the dashboard turning the knob for the radio.

"Okay I'll pick it up on my way home. You sure you want to walk home today? I can see if I can have a late lunch so I can pick you up."

"No, mother I'll just walk. Don't worry about it. Once I get used to the flow of traffic I can drive myself to and from."

"I know but I hate that you're all grown up and don't need me any more." I really don't know what to say back. I give up on flipping through the radio stations, nothing really good was on.

A few moments later we are pulling into the school's parking lot. Most of the kids and their friends stand by their cars laughing and having a good time. Maybe soon that will be me and a group of friends.

"I'll see you later. Have a good day sweetie" my mother tells me, leaning over and planting a kiss on my cheek. Most people get embarrassed by their mothers showing affection but I don't mind it much. It's better than her ignoring me. "Bye mother, love you."

"Hey, little girl, you sure you don't want your mommy to come back, hold your hand and walk you to class?" A tall guy with short black hair calls at me.

"Hey, Derek, quit being a dick for once and get laid!" Some boy with a light British accent yells back at him.

"Why don't you shut up faggot." Derek shoots back throwing his middle finger up.

"Takes one to know one huh?" The British boy replies and winks before Derek sends him a pissed look and walks off.

The British boy walks towards me and opens the school door for me. I mutter a thank you before hiking my bag up over my shoulder more.
