After they got back to Konoha things seemed pretty uneventful, after all, they had basically just participated in a small war. Naruto was thankful that nobody had questioned his behavior or his skill with water the entire way back, although Kiba did laugh and make a remark about how Gato thought he was a girl.

Right now Naruto was lying in his bed, staring up at the ceiling, pondering just what to do. It had been almost a week since then, and they were only doing D-ranks once again. His team had finished early, managing to complete the required amount for the seven days, and now their schedules were pretty much empty.

Naruto knew that he had to go to the store later, he was running a bit low on food, and for the time being he was putting it off for as long as he could, he didn't like going to the stores for obvious reasons. He sighed and rolled around on his bed, not knowing what to do.

"You could always go train." Kurama spoke up in his head, "Or did you forget that the chunin exams are coming up soon?"

Naruto gasped and shot over to his calendar. He was right! The chunin exams were being held just three weeks from now. "Thanks kyuu! I did forget!" Naruto thanked the fox and ran out of his front door to training ground 44.

When he got there he pondered what to do. He could always keep working on the different rasengan forms, but he doubted that he'd have enough time to pull one of the Mass compressed ones off during the exams. He went over to a tree and began to repeatedly punch it, making sure that he wasn't using full strength and using chakra around his fists so that the tree didn't break and his knuckles didn't tear.

After 100 punches on each arm he went to kicking. He finished with his 100 kicks for each leg and went over to a river. He took off his shoes and started to wade into the almost waist deep water. He stopped in the middle and stuck his arms out on both sides of his body before making a hand sign on each hand and whispering, "Suiton: Uzu no te." (Water style: hand of the whirlpools.)

Two lines of water shot out and encased his hands before they started to spin at accelerated speeds. Naruto had created this jutsu for both short and long range combat. The spinning water would allow his punches, or kicks if he also circled the water around his feet, to become stronger, and if his opponent was far away the water could expand quickly, still spinning, and do a multitude of things, ranging from spearing to pulling objects closer.

He formed a compacted water clone, a water clone that could withstand heavier blows, and began to attack using the jutsu wrapped around his hands. Whenever the clone would break he would replace it until he finally stopped later on and let the jutsu fall back into the river. He pulled himself out of the water and used a small wind jutsu to dry himself off.

It was now midday, so Naruto began to walk over to the only place that would serve him without him needing a henge, Ichiraku. He was about halfway there when he bumped into Shikamaru. He fought the blush that was attempting to spread across his face as Shikamaru turned around and smiled at him.

"Oh great I was just about to go to your house since I couldn't find you." He said. This time Naruto did blush, "Y-you were looking for me?" He cursed himself for stuttering. Shikamaru looked sheepish, "Well yeah. I was wondering if you... wanted to, uh, go to lunch with me?"

Naruto was pretty sure that the blush had won the fight and that his face was as red as a tomato, but he tried to ignore it as he spluttered out a response. "Y-yeah. Yeah sure! Let's uh, let's go!" he said and started walking towards Ichiraku. Shikamaru caught up to him quickly, "I thought your favorite food was dango, why are we getting ramen?" He asked.

'Crap.' Naruto thought. "W-well, it doesn't matter where we go, right?" he countered. 'Oh that sounded way to rude, dear Kami.' The reason he didn't want to go to the dango shop was because if he went as himself they would kick him out, and it's not like he's going to place a henge on himself in front of Shika.
