Today was a bit less crazy than yesterday, my car actually started but I decided to take it to the auto shop after my outing with Mason. My 'friends' still tried to embarrass me but failed because I didn't go the cafeteria I went to a cafe called Caffe and ate my lunch there.
School is out and I'm waiting outside on the stairs for Mason.
"Hey," I hear behind me and turn around to see Mason with a cute little smile. Honestly if smiles could kill I would be dead.
"Hey, do you want to take me to your special place or you to mine?" I ask
"Um," he says deciding, "how about you take me to yours." He says with a small smile. I nod and we head towards my car.
"Just to warn you my car hasn't been the nicest to me lately, so if we end up stranded somewhere don't freak out." I say half jokingly. He offers a small smile again, and we get in my car.
25 minutes later we're at our destination.
"Where are we?" Mason asks.
"We are at my favorite park!" I say excitingly.
"What makes this park so special? It looks pretty ordinary to me." He says scanning the park.
"Well," I start out holding back my feelings. "This is the park my dad used to take me to before he...died." A look of sadness crosses Mason's eyes but he doesn't say anything.
"I remember we would come here everyday after school, it didn't matter if he had a bad day at work or was super tired, he always brought me here." I say smiling but at the same time trying not to let my emotions through, but I know I'm failing. My dad was honestly the best dad in the world. He cared so much for me and my mom. I still cry everyday on his birthday, on Christmas, thanksgiving, basically every holiday.
"How long ago did he pass?" Mason asks taking me out of my daze.
"Eight years ago," I say as a tear escapes my eye, but I quickly wipe it away hoping Mason doesn't notice. I look up and his sad eyes are focused on me. He looks like he's debating on whether or not to say something.
"I-I'm sorry," he says his head looking at the ground. "I lost my mom too,"
"How?" I ask not even hesitating
"She got in a car crash 2 years ago,"
I don't say anything because I know he's heard 'I'm sorry' more than enough. He looks at me and I offer him a smile he returns with a small smile."Ok, enough sadness, let me get to drawing," he says with a smile. I nod and we move to a bench at the park.
"Would you mind if I added you in with the drawing? He asks.
"Um, I guess not. Why?"
"Well I can see on your face how much this place means to you and I really want to capture it." He says with a beautiful smile that makes my heart melt. He notices how much this place means to me and that speaks a lot about him.
We spend the next two hours at the park, he is now finishing up his drawing.
"Beautiful," he says as he admires his work. Pride all over his face. It's quite cute.
"Can I see?" I ask hoping he will let me.
"Nope,"
"Why not?"
"Because,"
"Because why?"
"Because I don't want you too,"
"Why not? I'm not a harsh critic. If it's terrible I will just lie and say it's better than Mona Lisa." I state smiling although I am getting frustrated that he won't let me see.
"I'll show you when you draw my place, ok?"
"Fine." I huff clearly annoyed that he won't show me. We get back into my car and are on the road.
"Do you want to stop and get something to eat?" I ask. "It's almost 5:30pm and we haven't eaten since lunch." I state
"Sure, what's good around here?"
"Have you ever been to a Chick-fil-A?"
"I seen some around but have never been in one."
"Well then we HAVE to go!" He laughs and agrees. I can't believe this boy has never been to a Chick-fil-A.
We both get the nuggets and the most wonderful waffle fries in the world. We are now sitting and eating. I wonder why he hasn't brought up the hallway incident. You know what, screw it I'm going to bring it up.
"Why haven't you said anything about the hallway incident?" He looks confused as to why I am bringing this up but replies honestly.
"Because I just figured I caught you at a bad time and didn't really think I needed to bring it up."
"But I was pretty rude,"
"Yeah, and so why I, why does it matter?" He asks studying me.
"I don't know." I shrug, "I just don't want you to hate me before you get to know me I guess." I say honestly. I am already hated by people who ditched ME and I don't want someone who doesn't even know me, hate me.
"Hailey, I'm not quick to judge, if I was I probably wouldn't have any friends at all. So don't think I hate you, because I don't." I nod and offer a small smile
"Now, since you don't want me to hate you, why don't you tell a few things about yourself and I'll do the same, ok?"
"Ok. Well, I'm a senior as you probably already know. I am an only child, but wish I had a sibling or two. Art is my favorite subject and I absolutely hate the penguins."
"Well Hailey, I take that back I think I may hate you." Mason says with a smirk.
"What! Why? I just told you very few things about me, you can't just hate me like that!"
"You see, I am a penguins fan, therefore I hate you," he says with a chuckle.
"Okay Mason whatever you say," as I roll my eyes, "but if we can somehow be friends we have to promise to never, and I mean NEVER talk about hockey ok?"
"Ok." He says with a smile so beautiful you can tell God created it. Geez if only he wasn't a penguins fan. Just kidding, I think I can look past it because, his looks sure do make up for it.
"We have to pinky promise ok." I say grabbing his pinky and making it a promise.
