A Star Has Gone Home

20 years ago today was the day I attempted to take my life. 20 years ago today I was saved by five of the most beautiful girls I ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Starting my day as normal with Leo running around my bed as I wake from sleep, the other half of the bed empty and cold yet it still feels warm. I let the energetic puppy out to the yard and brew myself some coffee.

Lauren thought getting Leo would be a good idea as she knew how much I loved canines, the three of us did everything together. Admittedly he could be a bit of a pain and a nuisance but that's okay, we love him none the less. It was 10 years ago she brought him home.

After my coffee and tending to the puppy I shower and get dressed Into a casual crop top, high waisted skinny jeans and converses with one of Lauren's beanies. I put on Leo's leash and together we head off to Caminah's house, thankfully someone other than me and Lauren, that we knew and trusted, lived close to us in New York.

12 years ago Lauren and I were finally able to buy a condo here, Lauren was able to buy it herself but I earned the cash to help her buy it.

Arriving at the large Apartment of Camila and Dinah Leo starts to get excited knowing he's going to see his little sister. Camila opens the door hearing Leo's barking with a smile on her face.

"Y/N! Hi how are you? I take it you're here to collect Laura? She's with Dinah In the kitchen, they just finished making cookies." Camila rambled on before bending down to see Leo, taking the leash from me and baby talking to my dog while I head To the kitchen.

The sound of giggles and a boisterous laugh make me smile. Turning the Corner Im met with Laura and Dinah trying to put icing on each other.

6 years ago me and Lauren had a beautiful daughter. Laura. Lauren carried her and I was I could say I was surprised to say she's beautiful, but I'm not I mean she came out of Lauren for gods sake! Laura has got Lauren's green eyes, smile and nose while she has          Y/H/C And my freckles. She also has Lauren's personality, stubborn, loving, caring, won't take shit from anyone, funny and protective of her family and friends. The two are one in the same.

"MOMMY!" The little girl launched herself Into my arms and held on tight. "I missed you mommy! And Leo! are we going to see mama today?" My daughter looked at me expectingly and I had to swallow the lump in My throat.

I hated days like this. Of course Lauren is the love of my life but it's hard to see her after all these years she's not been in my life. It was 5 years ago she left.

After an hour of catching up with Caminah, Laura, Leo and I all start to head towards the location of the love of my life. First stopping past a floral stop to pick up some beautiful lilies.

Half and hour later, we arrive. The cemetery is lightly covered in frost given the start of winter and I see so many graves with flowers adorning them. Leo seems to become less bouncy and energetic, he hates it here as much as I do. Laura becomes quiet too.

Reaching Lauren's grave we place down the flowers and sit in front of her gorgeous stone. Leo lays down and just stares at the stone. I hear Laura talk to her mama first.

"Hey mama, i miss you. So does Leo and mommy. Me and aunty Dinahsaur made cookies today, I made a dragonfly for you! It's green wings remind me of your eyes. Mommy says your eyes would always put me to sleep or calm me down when I was In a mood. She shown me some pictures of the two of you. You looked so happy, I hope you still are now. Mommy and aunty Camz said you are watching us from heaven, they said aunty Ally put in a good word for you with god whatever that means. We had show and tell in school yesterday. Mommy let me take in a scrap book of you and aunties and mommy! Everyone was happy and they cried when I said you were gone. Even though I miss you lots, you're in my heartbeat memories and that's all that matters. Mommy taught me that. Ill speak to you again next month mama, mommy wants to talk to you now. I love you." Hearing my daughter speak to her mother never fails to amaze me. She has such a way with words, another trait from the green eyed beauty.

Laura held my hand as I began to talk, tears forming in my eyes.

"Hey beautiful. I'd have thought that after five years of talking to you I'd get used to a one sided conversation but I never have. I still can't believe you're gone. They finally managed to find the driver of the truck by the way. Turns out he was drunk driving when he collided with you. He's been arrested for drunk driving, assault and sexual harassment. It seems to get harder without you Lo. Waking up every morning without you cuddled up to me. Hearing you singing in the shower or messing around with Leo and Laura. I miss seeing those beautiful eyes and hearing your voice at night or during the day. I miss you. My heart only beats for you though. I can't move on, I don't think I ever will. I've tried dating but I never get anywhere. My heart will only always belong to you. 20 years ago it was me who almost became a star..... now.... now every night, I look for the brightest star in the sky and I see you. I just wish you hadn't left too soon. At least you are where you belong, right next to the moon. I pray she's looking after you and I ask her if you keep bombarding her with stories of us, gushing and mushing over your family. She seems to like you. I love you Lauren. I will wait for the day the two of us can light up the night sky. For now, I'm just happy a star has gone home......." I pause for a minute allowing my tears to fall, a small thumb wipes them away and I see Laura with a small smile trying to make me feel better.

"I love you Lauren, we all do. I'll see you next month okay? Goodbye Lauren, I'll see you soon."

The three of us sat there. A comfortable silence looming over us as we replayed memories of the star in our heads. She's gone home.
