The Mystery of the Ophidians

Chapter 6

Rachel heard loud footsteps. She looked in the direction of the door. It grew louder. Rachel froze in place. Then she had an idea. She turned around and moved as fast as she could to the place she had woke up in. She sat down just as the door opened. She closed her eyes and leaned against the wall. She opened her eyelids slightly. She saw two men walking towards her with a plastic bag. They placed it down in front of her. The men began talking. "She's still unconscious. What should we do?" A man said. "I don't know Rob, we just listen to the boss. But he said that when she regains consciousness we shouldn't reveal our identity at any cost. I've got the masks ready." the other man said. "Well, there's food and water in the bag if she wakes up. We'll check on her later." Rob said. There was a loud shuffling of feet and the door shut.

Rachel lifted an eyelid. The men were out of here. She peered into the plastic bag. There was a burger, some fries, a soda, two bottles of mineral water. There were various different types of cookie packets. Rachel pulled out the burger and unwrapped it. Her teeth sunk into the soft bun and then through the crunchy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, the delicious patty and through the other layers.  Rachel had almost forgotten how delicious food tasted and it had probably been only a few hours without food and there were poor kids all over the world who couldn't eat food for days. Rachel made a mental note to donate money to the poor kids when she escaped. That is if she escaped. Rachel finished the burger and opened the fries. She ate a few. At the bottom of the bag was a long sweater with huge pockets. She slipped in the cookie packets. There were a big mineral water bottle and a small miniature one. She put the small one in her other pocket. She took a long sip from the bigger bottle. The water slid down her throat quickly. She felt rejuvenated and energized. Rachel stood up with more confidence and hope.

She began exploring the warehouse. There were large crates everywhere. Then she noticed the door was ajar. She tried to muster up enough courage to just use the door but she was afraid the men would still be there. She heard voices. Rachel stood next to the door her back against the wall. "Well Rob, I think the girl's awake. What should we do?" The man said. "Boss said we should just leave her alone. We better go get some food." Rob said. "I know a hotel nearby. We'll be back in half an hour. The girl might wake up then. Should we check on her?" The man said."I already told you that Boss will be very angry if he finds out that we didn't follow his instructions." Rob said. 

Rachel looked at them.They had a gleaming bald head which was shining with sweat. Their faces were covered with black masks. Rachel came to a conclusion that they were twins.

The men got in a jeep and sped away. It was evening and in an hour there would be less sunlight. Rachel opened the door and walked out carefully. She had half an hour of time to escape. But how? What if the men came early? But she knew she had to try before their 'Boss' returned. The sun would be setting soon. Rachel looked around. Then she found what she needed. She smirked.
