Chapter 15
"She Affects Me"After work I decided on going straight home, turning down Melissa's offer to go out. She was understanding and wished me a good nights rest which I was in need of.
Paw came running to me, "hi there buddy, missed me?" He barked as he began licking my face. I giggled and hugged the cute dog. "You've always been here for me, you're all I need." He barked once more causing me to smile. I sighed and stood up, "should I take a bath or just go straight to sleep?" I decided on a bath. It was more relaxing.
I lit the last candle before getting into the tub. I smiled as the warm water with scented bubbles and flower petals surrounded me. I rested my arms on each side of the tub and my head onto the back, a small pillow sitting on it. I sighed heavily, closing my eyes. I let my mind wander. Memories of what happened with Diane earlier today came to mind. I felt the tears form but I cleared my throat, not wanting to cry.
Suddenly Ruby came to mind. I groaned. What were we? Were we even friends? I'm not so sure. She's helped me and we've spoken numerous of times... Was I attracted to her? I mean, I guess I was but why was I so afraid then? Afraid to get to know her and befriend her? Did she scare me? Of course she did, but that's what attracted me to her! What did she think of me? Was I annoying to her? She's helped me and let me stay at her place last night! Did that not mean anything?
Confused and annoyed with my own thoughts, I decided on getting out the bath that was supposed to peaceful. I laughed and shook my head, oh how peaceful that was, I joked. I wrapped the towel around my body and tied my hair up. As I walked over to my closet the door bell rang. I checked the time, it was only 7 but who could that be? Raising an eyebrow up, I walked over to the peephole. Ruby? Awkwardly, I opened the door. "Can I come in?"
I placed the cup in front of her, smiling at her. "Thank you", she mumbled, taking a sip of the hot beverage. It had began to rain while I was in the bath. "So... what brings you around?" She looked up and shrugged, "I was bored and well, I don't really have much friends." So we were friends? I nodded, "cool, I'm glad to keep you company." She nodded and continued on with her drink. "So, would you want go out? Like grab something to eat? I only have snacks here, which are probably half finished..." She nodded, "sure. I know the perfect place."
I couldn't help but grin as I got ready for our little hangout. It was progress. She voluntarily came over to my place and agreed to going out. Progress. I decided on wearing an oversized knit sweater with some leggings and ankle boots. I then grabbed my beanie and scarf because it looked cold outside. "Ready?" She looked up from her phone and stared at me for a while before nodding.
The car ride was quiet but I didn't mind. I didn't really know what to talk about and I was hoping that while we ate we could possibly converse more. She parked her car in front of this tofu place. I wasn't so keen of tofu, I mean I didn't mind it, but if it's what Ruby enjoyed then sure, why not?
"Thank you", she said smiling to the waitress. I felt a bit uncomfortable, was she flirting with her? I shook my head, pushing my jealous thoughts aside. "So, have you been here before?" I shook my head, "oh no, it seems nice though so thank you." She smiled and began flipping through the menu. "In that case then, I'll order but I promise you won't be disappointed." I smiled at her, "ok."
I was enjoying myself and it looked like Ruby was doing so too. She was right, I wasn't the least bit disappointed with what she had ordered. Everything was so tasty and I absolutely loved it. "I used to come here after shows, I then fell in love with it and that's why I'm very close with the staff here." I almost sighed in relief, so she wasn't flirting, just being nice. Got it. I chuckled at my own dumb thoughts. "When's your next show?" She thought for a bit, "this Friday." I nodded and took a mental note. "Great, I loved your last one, you're really good." She smiled, "thank you, means a lot." I smiled back at her. We stayed staring at each other for a minute or two.
She parked her car outside my house. "Thanks again for agreeing to go out with me, I was in need of a good time." She placed her hand onto mine. "No, thank you for asking, I enjoyed myself." I giggled a bit and smiled at her. "Alright, we can both thank each other. I guess I better get going, got to order a lot tomorrow for your brother's party." She just nodded and waved as I got out. I turned to wave before going inside. As I closed the door I rested myself onto it, smiling, well more like grinning. That girl had an effect on me.
