Erin's POV

Sunday came and went. I had decided on visiting Carter and Melissa, who had also invited Daniel and Bryan over. We stayed at Melissa's for most of the day and watched movies and ate lunch there but then Daniel had to go back home and accompany his parents out to a family gathering so Bryan suggested that we go out to a dinner date. We all agreed and were off to a restaurant.

I contemplated on inviting Ruby but she wasn't answering my texts and I didn't want to annoy her. I would see her tomorrow either way so I decided to drop it.

"Erin, I wanted to hang out with you yesterday morning, probably go get brunch but you weren't home?" I blushed and shook my head at Bryan. "I was out, sorry!" He chuckled and wiggled his eyebrows, "so I heard. Melissa and Carter explained to me that you went to go see Ruby." I grinned and nodded, taking a sip of my soda. "Yeah, she had invited me to her show and I stayed the night which followed with her inviting me out to breakfast. I hung out at her place for a while before getting back home." "You guys are so cute though, so I'm not that mad but she better not take my boo from me." I giggled and wrapped my arms around him. "We're not even together but she would never! I wouldn't allow it!" He laughed and hugged me back.

Monday morning then arrived and I was driving late to work. I had went to sleep late because I stayed up watching "The Office". I had discovered the show when hanging out at Ruby's Saturday afternoon. "I'll stall them as hard as I can but please try to get here soon!" I sighed, "thank you, Bryan! I'm not that far now!"

I rushed into the meeting room and set my folders down. "So sorry that I'm just arriving! I woke up late and there was traffic." Ruby's mom shook her head, "It's alright, dear. We got here quite early either way." I smiled and sat down, "so, let's get down to business, shall we?" She nodded and nudged Cory to pay attention. I then noticed that Ruby wasn't there. I didn't know why but I suddenly felt bummed out but I didn't let that effect my work.

Our meeting was short as we only talked about small alterations and just went over the catering and other services. Cody was genuinely excited and had brought me a gift to thank me. It was the absolute cutest thing: a mug with the words "Best Planner" on it. They then left and I sat alone in the meeting room. I decided on calling Ruby to ask about her absence and see if she was alright. After the third ring my call was sent to voicemail. Strange. I then decided on texting her.

To: Ruby (:

I sent that text over an hour ago and still have not received a response. I felt worried but she probably was just busy? I never got to ask her what it was but probably with her job. I had went out for lunch with Bryan and it was great but the thought of Ruby was clouding my entire head and thoughts. Bryan noticed and asked if I was OK but I lied and told him it was nothing. I was just overreacting, right?

Cody's party was my only event this month so I went straight home after lunch. I gave Bryan the rest of the day off as well. I decided on just driving out to Ruby's. See if she was home and what was up. I parked outside of her apartment complex and got out.

I was walking towards her door when I noticed a girl come out of her apartment. She was laughing and leaned in, kissing her. I felt my heart drop as I froze in my place, not being able to move or speak. My throat went dry and I could feel the tears threatening to fall but I didn't let them. The girl then blew a kiss and wink before walking away. She noticed me and smiled politely before heading to the elevator behind me. She looked older, possibly in her mid 30's? I was snapped back to reality when I heard her speak behind me. "Ruby's home." I turned but the elevator doors had already closed. Who was she and how'd she know I came to find Ruby?

I ran back to my car, ignoring her calls. After I processed what happened with the stranger I turned and found Ruby looking at me, her head peaking out of her door. She looked like a mess. Bags under her eyes, her hair a mess and her eyes widened and red. She then walked out but I ran. I didn't know why, but I ran. She then began to call my name but I ignored her, leading us to right now. I placed my key into the ignition and drove off. My phone then began to ring. I ignored it.

I was currently laying in my bed, crying and overthinking what had just happened. Had Ruby ignored me to see someone else? Although we weren't official or anything, I thought there was something. An attraction between us. The more time I spent with her the more I fell. I angrily cursed at myself. Major dejavú. Had I not learned from the first time?

I then began to laugh like a madwoman, laughing at my own stupidity and mistakes. Ruby had told me that she would have just hurt me but I still let my guard down. I was hoping something would occur between us but she said so herself, she's not the dating type. I sighed. Who stays the night at the house of someone who had hurt you before just because she was acting nice at the right moment? She just had to be there when Diane cheated. "Gosh, I'm so stupid!" I face palmed, groaning into my hands. I lied to Diane and said Ruby was my girlfriend but we both knew that was just a lie but I had hoped there was a bit of truth to that but I was wrong.

An hour passed and I had decided on taking a hot shower to relax my tensed muscles. I then went out to the grocery store. I was hungry and wanted to cook myself something. I was in the pasta and bread section when someone tapped me in the shoulder. I turned and smiled. It was my cousin, Kelsey, and her daughter, Nancy. "Kels!" She grinned and embraced me in a hug. "Erin, long time no see! How have you been?" I smiled and shrugged, "pretty good". Lie. She nodded and turned Nancy to me, "look, sweetie, it's Erin. Remember her?" The baby began to clap and smile. I giggled and began to play with her. Kelsey then took my basket and began to walk with us. "So, how's Lucas?" She smiled proudly, "he got a promotion!" I smiled and nodded, "that's good! Glad to hear you guys are happy, isn't that right Nancy?" She clapped once more and began to talk gibberish. I laughed and handed her back to Kelsey, taking my basket back as well. "Thank you, Erin. Hey, why don't you come over this upcoming weekend so we can catch up? We moved near this lake so it'll be fun! What do you say?" I nodded, "I'm definitely in need of some fun! Text me the address and i'll be there!"

I drove back after that and was surprised to see Melissa's car parked out near my house. "Erin! I've been waiting for an hour!" I looked at her confused, "why didn't you call me? I was at the grocery store." She rolled her eyes playfully, "I did, doofus but you didn't answer!" I took out my phone and noticed I had silenced it and almost choked on my water at the amount of missed calls and unread messages. I had 3 missed calls from Melissa and two texts but over 50 unread messages from Ruby and 20 missed calls. "Crap", I mumbled as I opened the messages first. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at them.

"Erin, please, answer me."
"Babe, I'm sorry, hear me out."
"I'm no good and you don't know me, I was just trying to save you the hurt."
"I'm a mess, babe, a real mess."

"What's wrong? It looks like you want to throw up?" I looked up and shook my head. "Oh nothing, I just forgot to grab some ice cream and just realized it." Melissa laughed and accompanied me inside my messy apartment. She quietly gasped behind me as she took in the mess. "What the hell happened in here?" I laughed nervously, "oh nothing, just decided on having a movie night in the living room?" She turned to me and folded her arms. "So you threw out your entire bed out into the living room? Erin, be honest with me. Are you OK?" I sighed and sat down onto my couch, well pile of bed covers that laid on my couch. "It's just that Ruby and I were getting along so well, I had managed to actually get to know her but she was with someone else when I went to go see her!" She sighed and sat down beside me and began to rub my back. I hadn't noticed but tears began to stream down mu face once again. "It's OK, maybe she's just going through her own things right now?" I shook my head. "She would have told me. I went over and instantly regretted it. She had ignored my texts and calls. She didn't want to see me. I stupidly went to go see her. I can't believe this is happening again. She even invited me to accompany her to a music festival this weekend but I can't go now. I don't want to see her. She was toying with my emotions and I let her! I can't anymore, I just can't." Melissa just sat there and sighed. "I'm sorry, Erin." I looked up at her and smiled weakly, "it's not your fault, nor Ruby's. If anything it's mine."
