"Kayla, how is it possible that you have three bras just hanging about in the lounge room?"
She looked at me sheepishly, "Because the couch is the best place to get comfortable?"
"I don't want to sound sexist but aren't you supposed to be the clean one? Like I literally do not understand how your stuff gets everywhere"
She flung another bra toward my head and laughed, "Jace, there is no way that sentence could come across as anything but sexist. Like I love you but not cool"
"I love you too but what's not cool is the little pile of chocolate wrappers you've accumulated down the side of the couch"
She poked her tongue out at me, "my bad"
"Yes you are bad," I laughed as I bent down and tickled her, "my messy, stubborn, pain in the ass"
"Yours" she cried as my fingers danced across her body. Her giggles sounding throughout the room.
"Mine", I replied, "yours?"
"Always"
oOo
Time moved as a blur.
Not in the cliche sense but more of the fact that Jonathan had decided keeping me in a state of near constant inebriation was the best way to deal with a break up.
Go to class, go to Jonathan's, go to the bar, and ignore Jamie's calls.
Rinse, repeat.
We were sitting in PJ's and my eyes flicked to the door as another group of girls wandered in.
I hadn't seen Kayla since that night, I knew it was best to stay away from her, to not search for her but I missed her with every fibre of my being. I was completely hers and without her presence I just felt empty.
"How much longer are you going to nurse that beer for mate?", I looked at Jonathan, his arm wrapped loosely around Charlie's shoulder. I stared back and downed the rest of my drink to prove a point.
"See, all done"
"Whatever, you're just being a right sad sack and dude, it's wearing a bit thin", Jonathan said before nodding his head toward the dance floor, "You need to be like that guy, he's good looking and has two girls all up on his grill"
My eyes followed his gaze and appraised the guy he was pointing out. One girl danced at his side, while he bent down and whispered in the second girls ear. Her shrill laughter could be heard over the music, indicating the nature of his murmurs. It was when he lifted his head I found myself involuntarily on my feet and moving across the bar towards him.
It was the Adonis, Kayla's Adonis with his hands all over two girls who were very much not Kayla. Before I knew what was I was doing, I'd pushed past the two girls and was shoving this guy.
"What the fuck man?" he looked surprised for a moment before drawing himself up to his full height, his fists clenched.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I spat, "hanging out with chicks like this when you have a girlfriend at home?"
The room had quieted, all eyes were on us and I saw Jonathan moving quickly through the crowd towards us.
"Look mate, I don't even know you and my relationship is none of your goddamn business"
I didn't know what I was doing, it was like an out of body experience as I grabbed this guy by the scruff of the neck, "I'm not your mate. Get your fucking act together, Kayla doesn't need this shit"
The guy gritted his teeth and stared at me, I could see his patience waning, he pushed me back muttering a string of curses. I was dangerously close to getting hit when Jonathan stepped in. Charlie squaring up by his side.
"Sorry dude, we've been drinking a lot and everyone just needs to calm down", Jonathan looked at me pointedly, "walk away Jace"
I knew he was right but the anger was surging through my veins, I wanted to hurt this guy for doing what he was doing. No one deserved the shit he was pulling and I couldn't help the last snide comment of, "I hope Kayla dumps your sorry ass"
He moved quickly, I had to give him that. His fist connected with my cheek and then it all went black.
The dude may be an asshole but he could sure pack a punch.
