THAT MORNING, I WOKE UP SHAKEN. " Wake up! " Autumn giggled and I opened my eyes. " What time is it? " I asked and Crystal looked at the clock. " Seven thirty " She said coolly and then took a double take at the clock " Seven thirty?! " She exclaimed and rushed to the closet. Indigo followed her to get her makeup supplies and Autumn ran across the room to get the curling iron and hair dryer. " Stop " I said and they all stopped instantly. " Just call in breakfast in bed " I said calmly and they all looked at each other. They huddled together and started murmuring things. " Is that okay? " I heard Autumn say and I looked at them puzzled. Finally they broke apart and faced me in a line. " Okay, but at 9:30 you have to go to the woman's room. " Crystal said, her voice strong. " Why? " I asked them and Indigo responded " They are doing special interviews today Anna, for the Report. " and I groaned and rolled my eyes. " Fine " I said and stood up, heading towards the balcony. " I wish I could be in the gardens " I say, my eyes wandering around the garden, stopping at the bushes. My eyes immediately widened. Laia. Before I can think, my feet race out the door. As I run down the hall, I pass dozens of maids and guards. Maybe its because I'm in my pyjamas and barefoot or maybe because my hair looks like a birds nest, but I honestly don't care. I just want to meet Laia on time. I head downstairs, trampling a bunch of maids. " Sorry! " I call out and they all glare at me. As I'm in the gardens, I pass by my favourite bench, thousands of flowers and pillars until I reach the end. Bushes, no. Topiary's about twelve feet tall stand in front of me. I wriggle my way through them and head towards the forest. I run down the pathway, as quick as I can. Once I finally reach the fence, I slow down. I sit down by a patch of daisies and pant my heart out. Once I finally get back to normal I look past the fence. It looks like more trees and flowers except for a faint outline of a house. I stare at it until I hear leaves ruffling. I look to my right to find Laia, walking towards me. " Annabelle " She said surprised. " You made it " She continued and sat down. " Yeah " I replied and sat across from her. I look up to find Laia wearing a black T-shirt with a black hoodie, dark faded jeans and her normally loose hair is now tied up in a ponytail. " What are you wearing? " She asked me and I looked down at my clothes. I was wearing a loose pink shirt and black shorts. My hair, which was in a braid is now messy and pieces of my braid fell off, making me look like I slept in the wild. " You know, pyjamas " I said coolly and she laughed. I suddenly got serious and looked at her " How are we going to get you out? " I asked her and she became serious too " I- I don't know " She stuttered thoughtfully and let her mind wander off. " Wait, the rebels come through here to get to the castle right? " I asked her and she nodded. " Do they have like a secret entrance or something? I mean, nobody would ever climb over.. that " I said looking at the ten foot tall fence in front of us. " I think so. I'm not sure. Since I'm not a rebel, I don't go to attacks " She said. " Well why don't you? If you come to the castle, you could enter home free! " I said happily and Laia's face brightened up. " Yeah! that would work! " She responded with glee " Whens the next rebel attack? " I asked her curiously " In three days. " She said and I smiled " Great! Just ask to come with them. " I said and she nodded. I smiled at her and looked at the sky, then I looked back. Even here, you could still see the castle. " I have to go, I don't want them looking for me " I said and her face fell. " Of course. Its fine " She said while standing up. She brushed off her pants and looked at anything but me. I could tell she was hurting. She missed the castle, her friends, her family. She lost everything, and now she's losing hope " Bye " Laia said and started walking away. I did the same but I stopped abruptly. " Laia, I will find a way to get you out, I promise " I told her and she turned around " I hope so. " She said with a small smile and continued to walk away. I looked down and started to walk away too. As I entered my room my maids stopped what they were doing and ran to me " Where on earth did you go? " Crystal asked me angry and worried at the same time. " I- " I began but Crystal interrupted me " We were worried sick about you! " She continued and I sat on my freshly made bed. I sighed deeply as he continued to lecture me, Autumn must have sensed my mood because she interrupted Crystal " Were wasting time! Lets just get her ready! " Autumn said and rushed me to the closet. Indigo does my make up first, adding very, very little make up as possible. Then Autumn comes and waves my hair, giving it a beach-y feel and lastly Crystal places me in a orange dress that apparently makes my eyes stand out. " All done " Crystal says while giving me wedges. " Great, thanks you guys! " I told them and rushed out the door. As I entered the woman's room, I found it completely deserted.. except for the chair and black ground in the middle of the room. " Annabelle, great. You're here " Silvia says in monotone and looks up from her clipboard " Sit sit " She says and I sit while a man walks in. He is apparently the camera man. " Okay Annabelle, you will be answering these questions: " The man says an I nod. " We're on in five, four, three, two, one "Silvia says and whispers the last two." What does the Selection mean to you " Silvia asked me and I stared at her dumbfounded for about two minutes before I could answer. " The Selection is a wonderful opportunity for girls all over Illea, including me because it really shows you what royalty really means. Well, that and having a chance with one of the Princes of Illea " I said and Silvia nodded her head with pride. " What do you think of the competition? " She asked me carefully " I think I have about one in a million chances of winning " I joke and Silvia cracks a smile " I mean, have you seen the other girls? They're practically models. " I continue and Silvia nods again. " What are your best qualities? " Silvia questioned me and I though about this one " I don't have any qualities in particular. Heck, I don't even know why the Princes still put up with me. " I joke at the end and the camera stops rolling. " Great job Annabelle. See you tomorrow " Silvia says and walks away with the camera man. I sigh deeply and head out the door when I bump into someone...
