I never knew a time before The Scourge. At night, when the faint sounds of bombs kept me from sleep, my mother would dry my tears and lull me to sleep with the tales of the past. A time before the war that took her from me, The Scourge. She would tell me about cities with buildings as tall as mountains, with lights that sparkled like stars when the sun went down. She told me of the world she grew up in, one free of the violence that encompassed ours today. She told me how she met my father, and how he won her affection. But most importantly she taught me how we became what we are. Moders. In 3024 Earth's climate changed drastically at an unprecedented rate, the sun scorching the Earth. My mother said first the crops died, taking the livestock with it. Unable to adapt to the harsh environment, the planet began to starve. Riots pursued, starting in the cities, quickly turning to bloodshed. Humanity, as it appeared destined for extinction, began killing to survive. It was a time of great fear and great sorrow.
The Country of Pallas, in an attempt to gain back control of not only its people, but their future, created a race of superior beings, super soldiers, meant to be used as a weapon. These soldiers were called Moders. They were genetically engineered to be able to withstand extreme conditions in many different climates. They were stronger, faster and more resourceful than any human soldier could even hope to be.
In order to create these weapons, scientists gathered all able-bodied youth from the surviving population and gave them a series of tests, both mental and physical. The cerebral testing scored intelligence levels, problem solving skills as well as resourcefulness. The next stage of testing was meant to push the candidates to their breaking points physically. The subjects were given extensive combat training and were made to demonstrate their training in a series of obstacle courses in a variety of conditions, ranging from scorching heat to bitter cold. The strongest and wisest were moved on to the next stage, and the rest were returned to the war zones. It was the best of these candidates that were selected to become their weapon. They were injected with a serum that enhanced their DNA as well as threw their Adrenaline Glands into overdrive. With this a new race was born, one the government hoped would restore peace to the world, and it did. For a short time.
Once peace was reinstated and Earth's climate returned to normal, the Moder Program was discontinued. But fearing their weapon they sent the existing Moders to live out the rest of their lives in camps monitored by the government. What happened next not even The Moders expected. They didn't just die out like the government had hoped they grew stronger. Their children were even more powerful than their parents and The Moders' ranks began to grow. Fearing their strength, the Pallsain government ordered for the extermination of all Moders. The Genocide of my people, and I was going to do whatever it took to stop it.
