He was actually here, and he had sacrificed himself to save me. His cry for pain was loud as the bear ripped into his right shoulder, and it woke a fire in me. I had to save him.
Without thinking, I jumped on the bears back and drove my knife deep into the bears temple. It let out a roar of pain, raising its head and releasing Theon's shoulder. I took its raised head as my opportunity to end this. Letting out a yell, I dragged my blade across the bears exposed throat. The bear let out a sickening gurgling sound, stumbled a few steps and fell to the ground.
Wasting no time, I ran to Theon's side. "Theon?!" I shouted cupping his cheeks with my bloody hands. He was pale and his eyes stared off blankly in the distance. Please don't let him be dead, I thought panicked. I put my ear to his chest and breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the faint thumping of his heart.
"Come on, Theon, stay with me." I took off his blood stained shirt to better assess his grisly (no pun intended) wounds. His right shoulder was covered in bright red blood as well as his slashed ribs. I cursed and ran to my back pack that lay a few feet from his body. Grabbing a spare t shirt, I ripped it into strips, tying one tightly around his shoulder and pressed the other firmly to his side desperate to stop the bleeding.
He was a Moder, his mark made that much clear, but it was hard to tell if even a Moder would survive these severe of wounds. After what felt like a very long time he sucked in a deep breath and said "Ameena!" in a panicked tone gripping on to my shoulders.
"It's ok! It's ok, I'm right here." I said shocked and grabbed the side of his cheek again in the best I could do as a soothing tone. "You're gonna be just fine, I promise." My eyes welled with tears, but I knew deep down that promise wasn't mine to make.
"Ameena..." he said again weekly but his eyes weren't seeing me. He fell back on to his back again and shut his eyes, his breathing returning to normal.
I had to get him to safety, and fast. Then I had to clean his wounds, it wouldn't be long before infection would set in, especially in that bite. I dragged him as gently as I could to a boulder that cascaded upward to a mountain peak. I took off my jacket and laid it over his body. The rest of his supplies was left at our original camp site, including his first aid kit. If he had any chance at surviving the night, he would need that kit. I turned to Theon kneeling next to his limp body, "I'll be back with the kit as soon as I can." I told him. I looked at him for a few seconds more, then bent down and kissed his pale forehead. "I promise."
