The ride back to camp was mostly quiet.
While I grew up with these boys, they started acting weird around me when my brother took over as acting leader. I don't know what it was but they all started walking on egg shells around me, I guess they didn't want to upset the boss's sister, which was odd. Anyone who knows me, knows that I don't need my bother to protect me, I can handle myself.
The only person who even looked in my direction the whole ride home was Jax. I have known him my whole life, he had always been quiet growing up, but was always nice. I would be lying if I said that he hadn't grown up to be handsome, he was tall, around 6'2, with sandy blonde hair, and gorgeous blue eyes. Athena always said that he had a crush on me, but we were just friends, if that. We didn't really talk much, nothing more than a causal greeting. I caught his look and smiled warmly, one that he returned with a nod and looked back down at his feet.

By the time we got back to camp my butt was numb from the bumpy jeep, so I stumbled my way back to the tent I shared with my best friend. As soon as I opened the door I saw Athena's guilty expression as she looked at me from her cross legged position on her cot. I didn't speak as I crossed the small space and sat on the edge of my own cot, I wanted to make her sweat a little bit.

"Okay! I know I'm a horrible friend!" I knew it wouldn't take much, "I ratted you out to Darien." she paused giving me her puppy-dog eyes, when I still stayed quiet she continued. "I was just worried about you! And if something had happened to you and I didn't say anything, not only would Darien have my head, but I would never be able to live with myself." She made another pause. "You're my best friend."

Thinking I had made her squirm enough I smiled. "I know, you're my best friend too."

"So you forgive me?" she said in a small voice, peaking up at me from under her eyelashes.

"you know, for being the goddess of wisdom, you really can be thick." I smiled and got up from my bed and plopped down on hers. "Of course I forgive you." She smiled and trapped me in a hug. "Okay, Okay!" I said giving in and patting her on the back, I wasn't big on physical affection. Her grip on me tightened and a devilish grin appeared on her face. "Okay! Ewe, that's enough of that!" I said trying to squirm out of her embrace, giggling she released me.

"Fine, so what happened to you this morning?" her eyes twinkling with curiosity.

"Well, besides getting chewed out and tackled by Darien," I said in a teasing tone as she scrunched her nose at my comment. "I was chased and shot at by the legion."

Her eyes grew wide at my revelation, "What?!" she gasped, her eyes bugging out of her head. I simply nodded, trying to act as if it were no big deal, but both of us knew otherwise. She got glint in her eye as a mischievous grin spread across her face, "So you let me feel all bad for ratting you out while you knew that my big mouth saved your life!"

I snorted at her comment, but knew she was right. "at least your big mouth was good for something this time." I said winking at her.

She let out an exasperated gasp her smile widening, and shoved me over onto my side on the bed next to her. I sat up both of us giggling.
