Chapter 6: Jax
I woke up in a ghost town, my head spinning.
Sitting up, I clutched my aching head and What happened between now and the last thing I remember? Slowly the memories coming back to me.
Meena! That little minx! What had she been thinking head-butting me and running off in the direction of the intruders? I shook my head; I knew exactly what she was thinking: she had to save the rest of the camp.
She had a heart of gold, even though she tried to convince everyone otherwise. That is what I loved most about her. I had been in love with her since I was 7, when I found her at the lake side kicking the crap out of two boys. At first, I had no idea what had gotten Meena so fired up, she was usually so reserved. It wasn't until a few seconds later when I saw her bend down and pick something up. As I peeked out from around the trunk of a nearby tree, I could see her clutching a small soft kitten to her chest. I quickly hid as she neared my hiding spot but heard her speaking softly. "It's ok now, I won't let them hurt you anymore." She said nearly a whisper as she stroked its soft fur.
It was then that I started falling for her. Aside from the physical reasons I was attracted to her, because come on, the woman was flawless, she had risked a major ass beating by two older and much bigger boys all to save a little animal. That was the first glimpse of the fire that now burns so brightly in her eyes. Now, older, stronger and wiser, she still fights for those who cannot fight for themselves. She passed the days she didn't spend training or scouting, with Shana helping feed, look after and care for the children of the orphanage. It broke her heart to see so many mother and fatherless children, but the life expectancy was not long as a Moder, so those who chose to have children had to face the fact that they might not live long enough to see them grown.
I had to go after her. Judging by the position of the sun I had only been out a little less than 15 minutes. Just enough time for her to escape. I ran south after her. I made it not even 5 miles when I spotted a Legion Jeep. I squatted down checking the surroundings before approaching.
Then from the south ran a blonde male in Legion Dress. His eyes screamed of fear. My little minx must have caused him some trouble.
He ran directly to the vehicle, rummaging around in the back for a radio grabbing the receiver he pulled it to his mouth to speak. Oh no you don't. I quickly and quietly grabbed him from behind and placed my blade against his throat. He froze dropping the receiver placing his hands in the air.
"Where is she?" I asked in a menacing tone.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" he said, trying to be strong but I heard his voice quiver in fear.
"You know, if you had just told me the truth, I might have let you live." He paled even more at my words. Good thing he didn't know they were empty. Well for the most part. I wouldn't let him walk away so easily, but I wasn't going to kill him either.
"He shot her! Okay!" now it was my turn to pale, my heart sinking to my feet.
"Wrong answer." I said in a cold tone, my grip on his neck tightening.
"isn't...Dead." he struggled to say against my choking grasp. At his words I let up a bit. He gasped as air reentered his lungs. "He only nicked her. She ran and he took off after her. He told me to get back to the car and get backup. That's all I know I swear!"
I heart rose at his words slightly and so did my grip. My mistake. He took this as an opportunity to attack. Maybe he wasn't as spineless as I had originally thought.
Grabbing a knife of his own out of the jeep he swiped at my gut, but I was faster than him, and easily dodged. He attacked again this time connecting to my wrist, causing some pain, but no real damage. But without a knife, he had the advantage. He swiped again slicing open my cheek. I grabbed my face in both hurt and shock pulling away to show a blood on my hand. He took my shocked nature to attack he stabbed at my chest.
I didn't want to hurt him, but he was not giving up. I had severely underestimated my opponent. I we battled for a few moments more. Then I did something I thought I would never be able to do. Feeling sick to my stomach I grabbed his neck from behind and with one foul snap he fell to the ground dead. He was my first kill.
Whathave I done?
