Aiden had his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes were glued to the television screen in front of him. It wasn't that hard to guess that he didn't really like the latest task Scott had given him. He didn't really like watching you to make sure the dread doctors wouldn't take you.
You had told Scott a thousand times already that you would be fine. Years ago you had gotten a new lung and for some reason the pack was certain the dread doctors would find out about that. You were certain that after three years of being around the pack, you knew how to handle yourself, how to defend yourself.
"Can you stop staring at me?" Aiden didn't even bother to turn his face towards you and his voice was nothing but a soft murmur. "That's starting to get annoying." He absentmindedly grabbed the remote control to find another movie on Netflix.
"You're in my house, okay? I can do whatever I want and if I want to stare at you, I stare at you and there is nothing you can do about it." You raised your eyebrows and let your chin rest on your folded hands. Stubbornly you kept your eyes on him until Aiden let out a deep sigh and a word you didn't even want to understand.
"Do you think I like it to be here instead of fighting with the rest of them? Do you think I enjoy being nothing but a babysitter instead of the brute force that takes down the bad guy?" Aiden leaned back in the comfortable chair next to the window and you cocked your head.
"So, Scott still doesn't trust you and your brother?" You tried to sound as uninterested as possible and yawned while you let your elbow lean on the table. "Well, that's tragic." You stood up from your seat and fell down in the chair next to his. "Almost as tragic as being a damsel in distress for your entire life." You let your right ankle rest on your left knee. "During the first years of my life my parents were constantly worried about me and just when I thought that was finally over because I had a lung transplant, Scott decides I need a babysitter because of the one thing that saved my life."
Aiden curled his lips up into a slight smile. "I'm pretty sure you can take care of yourself if you have to." He turned his face towards you and for a short moment his eyes met yours. "But since I want him to trust me, I'm afraid I can't go anywhere. I don't want to ruin my chances to officially become part of his pack."
"I wouldn't want to ruin your chances either." You moved a little closer towards him and turned your head at the television. "What were you watching? If you're not leaving, we can as well pretend that this is just a normal movie night."
"I'm watching some superhero movie. You like that?"
"Nope, but at least in that case we're both doing something we don't like. Sounds fair to me."
"If you say so."
