Sequel to: "Hurt and Broken" (Added to June 2016), "Healing and Recovering" (July 2016) and "Loving and Losing" (July 2016)
You stared at the clock. You had done so every few minutes, but you simply couldn't stop doing it. You had seen half an hour pass. You had seen an hour pass. You had seen two hours pass.
But there was stil no news from Aiden.
"He's still alive." Ethan sat in the chair next to your bed. He was holding a hot cup of tea, but his lips were forming a straight line. Usually he was a great talker, but right now he didn't say much. "I can feel that."
"What else can you feel?" Somehow you still had the feeling that something terribly bad was going to happen to Aiden, was happening to Aiden. Somehow you still had the feeling that he wouldn't make it out of this alive.
"He's in a lot of pain." Ethan took another sip from his hot tea. His hands were trembling a little. "I can feel that too." He rolled his eyes and he swallowed away the tears that were clearly visible in his eyes.
You stared at the clock once more and you pressed the red button next to your bed. You saw half a minute pass. You saw a minute pass. You saw five minutes pass.
"Did you need something?" Melissa walked into the room. Her lips were curled up into a kind smile, but she had a frown on her forehead and her eyes weren't smiling along.
"How is he doing? Can I see him already?" Your voice was trembling and you felt your chest moving up and down. You should still be in a lot of pain, but somehow the adrenaline made sure you didn't notice.
"He is stable for now. He will probably heal soon." Melissa looked at Ethan who was staring at her too. "Normally no one is allowed to visit him, but I think I can make an exception for the two of you."
Ethan jumped up from his seat and he carefully helped you to step out of the bed. He wrapped an arm around your waist and he lifted your arm over his head around his neck. "Will you be fine like this?"
You nodded. You shivered when your feet touched the cold floor again, but you tried to hide it before Melissa and Ethan would send you back to bed. "I'll be fine."
"Follow me." Melissa nodded her head and she checked if the hallway was empty. With firm but slow steps, to make sure you could follow, she walked to a room at the end of the hallway. She used her keycard to open the door and your eyes widened when you walked in.
Aiden's body looked pale white and it was that his chest was moving up and down a little, else you would not have believed he was still alive. He was tied to beeping machines and a green number on a screen showed his heart rate.
"Aiden?" You leaned on Ethan while you hurried to his side. "Aiden? Do you hear me?" You grabbed his hand and hoped that, like in all those stories, he would squeeze you but nothing happened. "Aiden? Aiden? Can you promise me to wake up?" You felt a tear rolling down your cheek and Ethan tightened his grip around you.
"My brother would never leave you." He whispered, more talking to himself than to you. "He'll wake up."
