Before I knew it, it was already the end of May. In two weeks, I leave for my family reunion in New York.
Despite my previous emotions, I had somehow adjusted to the fact that Rocky and Anna (also known as "Rockna") were together.
When I needed to, I turned to some good music for comfort-- something I learned from Rocky. I might slowly be getting used to the fact that he's with her, but I know I still miss him, and I won't deny it.
Now, come on, baby. This ain't the last time that I'll see your face, and come on, baby, you said you'd find someone to take my place..
We've spoken since our last little coffee "date", but not very often. I was starting to fear that I acted weird that day, but then I remembered him saying he had a lot to do. Hopefully once he gets done, I'll get with him again. Preferably, before I leave for New York.
Speaking of the New York trip, I haven't even thought about it until earlier today when my mom texted me, asking how long I would be in the city. Only three days there will suffice, not including two full days for travel. I'll go see my family, take some time to enjoy the city, then come home.
I got so caught up in booking my flight/hotel reservations for New York, I barely even noticed it when my phone started going off. "Please don't be Mom again," I groaned quietly to myself. Thankfully, it wasn't. Who it really was surprised me:
Rocky."Can you come over for a while? I need your help."
Along with his new address attached at the bottom. Once again, my wish to see him magically came true, even though I didn't expect it to at all.
I just don't believe that you have got it in you, 'cause we are just gonna keep 'doing it'.
I finished my planning for a while and left for Rocky's place. I didn't know what he needed or why he'd be asking me, but finding out was just another reason to go.
It felt weird walking up to his front door. I hadn't done it in what seemed like a million years, even though Last time I did it, we were still together.
When I saw him open the door, two things ran through my mind: Here we are again. And I'm lucky to still be here. A part of me keeps wondering why.
"Hi, Brooke. Thanks for coming," he said.
"Of course. What do you need help with?" I replied with a smile.
"Come on inside." He led me around the house to an unfamiliar sight, but I still immediately knew what it was: the studio."Dang," I said. "You definitely built this place up."
"Yeah. Once we moved in, this is where I spent the most time. Decorating and working in it," he explained. I nodded while continuing to look around."Anyways, I need your opinion in something," he finally said.
"Sure. Anything," I agreed.
He slid in front of the desk where the computer was. On it were many samples and different versions of various R5 songs. After scrolling through a bunch of files, he finally found the specific one. "I'm writing this song for Anna, and I want your opinion on it."
"Okay.."And every time I start to believe that everything you're saying, I'm reminded that I should be getting over it.
I couldn't help but remember that even after dating Rocky for a year and a half, I never had a song written about me.
When it first started playing, my heart leaped. First of all, it was Rocky singing for once, not Ross. Secondly, he seemed legitimately happy when hearing it. Of course, I understand why. I know how it feels to be in love. I have to admit, she will love it. The lyrics were amazingly melodic and poetic, plus there's a feeling in it that resembles genuine happiness. One of Rocky's best abilities is putting whatever emotion he felt while writing into the song.
"Wow, that's beautiful," I said once it was finished. "What're you going to call it?"
"I think 'Lay Your Head Down'," he answered. "I really hope she likes it."
"Its truly amazing. She'll love it."
"Thanks... Hey, uh, while you're here, tell me what you think of this other one," he said while skimming through other files. He opened one titled "Trading Time" and hit play for me to listen. This one had similar qualities with the other: poetic lyrics, flowing harmonies, a noticeable feeling of love.
"You really are gifted with songwriting," I admitted. "Who's this one about?" I couldn't help but get a bit curious.
Rocky shrugged. "Just some girl Ross used to be into."
After a few more minutes, I drove home, and got everything finalized for New York.
Although I had it all shoved down, I couldn't deny that it was bothering me again. They were.
