ten; a distance

It was finally Friday. The week felt like a snail, easing its way by. I felt like everything had changed within a few days. Remi and I were still close, and besides Monday, I haven't really had any deep, arguing chats with Blue. I saw Harry, everyday in class, but, every time I tried to ask him something or get his attention, something kept me from doing it.

It was almost unwelcoming when he wasn't at my house. It felt like we lost something.

Ever since Harry punched Grayson so suddenly, and spoke to me both days after, I felt a little closer to him. But now, after this long week, I haven't spoken to him once. On top of that, he hasn't been getting yelled at by Mr. Lenin, or loading up on after school detentions either. I wondered what could possibly have changed within the time frame.

I still had a chance to talk to him, having it was only two thirty, and seventh let out at three.

I thought about whispering for Harry while we were all individually working on our assignments when he raised his hand out of nowhere. I retracted before Mr. Lenin finally answered to Harry. "Yes Harry?" He said from his desk. "Can I be excused?"

Mr. Lenin approved before Harry stood up and left. I watched his shirt flow perfectly in the wind as he shut the door behind him. I never knew why he wore such different clothing than everyone else. Only once or twice since I arrived have I seen him in a tee shirt.

Without thinking, I stood up and walked over to Mr. Lenin's desk. He looked up at me, and I quickly realized I shouldn't just ask to go to the bathroom, since it would sound like I was just trying to leave. "Um, can I go get my sweater? I left it in Mrs. Rose's class." I asked casually, which Mr. Lenin nodded to.

I turned and walked to the door, where I opened it quickly and hurried out. It clicked which confirmed it was closed.

Harry wasn't anywhere in sight, so I walked to the right down the stairs that led to the bathrooms. When I finally reached the staircase, which was separated from the hall, I saw Harry step down the last few. Before I could say anything, his eyes looked up and met mine when the door behind me shut loudly.

His eyes narrowed and he just looked up at me for a moment, until I started to walk down the stairs. "Elodie, what are you doing?" He questioned as I reached where he was.

I stepped down and stood across from him. "I wanted to talk to you." I said softly, and he didn't hesitate before answering me. "Why?"

Harry edged his way closer to the door like he wanted me to hurry. "I just, I wanted to see if you were alright? You haven't been at my house all week and I-"
