Scarlet

"So what exactly happened?" Harry asked me for the fifth time since I stepped into my apartment. He didn't even give me a chance to change. He kept asking what had happened in the last 24 hours, through my bedroom door.

Finally after much nagging, I sat him down at the kitchen counter as he sipped on a smoothie and I made myself some food. Once the food was all prepared, I sat down opposite him and began the lengthy story of what had happened. From when I got home from work to the moment that I sat down in front of him.

He barely ever interrupted only stopping me to ask a short question or to find out how Wesley was doing.

Twenty minutes later I sat in front of a wide eyed Harry Styles.

"So are the two of you back to being good ol' friends again??" Harry asked, rocking his arm back and forth as he said 'ol' friends'.

"That's the thing," I told him as I took a forkful of pasta salad. "I don't know. I mean, it seems as if we are okay but then again it's like these awkward moments or like we can't fill the silence which never used to happen." I vented.

"It's been four years of no communication, I me-"

"That's the thing. Four years should be enough things to talk about." I cut him off.

"Let me finish. It's been four years. Maybe you drifted. Are you the same person you were four years ago? He's changed too. He's more responsible. Maybe, he's trying to be the same person he was when you were still friends but because you've changed now it doesn't seem the same way. And you're probably trying to make jokes and be the same when he's changed. He has a son now, Scarlet, he has more responsibility. He's still the same Niall, but he's changed too. He's grown up."

That shut me up.

"Oh."

"You've both grown up. It's going to take time. Take him up on his offer to hang out, that's only if you want to. Speak to him, maybe properly without interruptions. Then try and see what happens. You need to clear the air before going forward.

"But what about the side comments and gestures?"

"Maybe Niall does have feelings for you. You keep saying how you're over him and how you can't be with him anymore. It's all bad timing but it shouldn't be bothering you if you don't have feelings for him. You seem hopeful of him having feelings for you, clearly you aren't over him."

"I don't have feelings for him. I'm just curious." I shrugged.

"The two of you make me sick. Everyone always told you that you'd end up together so why can't you see it."

"Because, the last time I finally accepted it, I got hurt." I snapped.

There was a heartbeat of silence before Harry shook his head, apologising.

"I really shouldn't have said anything. I know it was a tough time for you. And I'm sorry. I don't want you to bring it all up again."

"It's okay. I just don't want to go back to the way I was. I was a wreck."

"I know. I'm sorry. How about this?" Harry said as he leaned his elbows on the counter. "If Niall had to tell you he loves you, what would you do?"

I thought about it. I knew what I would do but I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do.

"You don't need to tell me. You can think about it. But even if you do know, when he tells you he loves you at least tell him."
