Psalm 25:1-22
In a day when everything seems to be an upheaval mess, due to the election year that has placed friends and families at enmity with each other. Decisions are made which frustrate people, turning organizations into a chaos of divided opinions. We turn to the Lover, Savior and Ruler of this world who is full of Mercy, Truth and Grace for all mankind. We bring our personal and national prayers to His throne and place them at His feet! David found also he must take his own personal needs and national needs to God as a final authority. He also felt the change of leadership as his own throne was upset by family and friends who were not following God's will in any situations. But he knew where his real help came from! God was his leader and the nation of Israel his responsibility. God had placed him in a leadership position which was threatened every day by those not authorized by God. We need to call on God when we feel things are out of whack in our world. He hears and answers! May His will be done today, In Jesus' Name, I pray! Amen!
With our established King of Kings we begin Psalm 25:1-3-(KJV)-"Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in Thee! Let me not be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph over me." These were the powerful words of King David. (Read Psalms 86:4; 143:8; 34:8; 13:4-5; 41:11). Now the reason David was assured of an answer, from God for his pleas, is found in verse 3 of Psalm 25-"Yea, let none that wait on Thee be ashamed:" Waiting on God in patience and belief encouraged David. (Read Psalms 25:5-"...on Thee do I wait..."; 40:1 reveals his belief and trust also). He went on to say, "Let them be ashamed which transgress without cause." (Read Psalm 35:26). Are you feeling the confidence to rely on God yet? Tell Him so! David desired that God be in charge and Do the teaching from His Word-"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path."-David's son, Solomon, said this in Proverbs 3:5-6. Do you suppose his daddy had anything to do with his knowing this? We teach our children daily by our own lives and God brings it home to their hearts.
So David asked in Psalm 25:4-7-(TLB):
1. "Show me the path I should go, O Lord." (Exodus 33:3)
2. "Point out the right road for me to walk." (Romans 12:1-2)
3. "Lead me,". (Psalm 23:3)
4. "Teach me;". (Teach me thy way , O Lord!)
David declares, "For You are the God who gives me salvation. I have no hope except inYou."
5. Overlook my youthful sins, O God!" (1 John 1:9)
6. "Look at me instead through eyes of mercy and forgiveness,". (Psalms 103:17; 106:1)
7. "Look at me...Through the eyes of everlasting love and kindness." (Jeremiah 3:24-25; Psalm 51:1-2)
A good comparison to David's Repentant LAMENT was his declaration of what God does for all in Psalm 25:8-10-(NKJV)-"Good and upright is the Lord; :
1. "Therefore He teaches sinners in the way." (Salvation )
2. "The humble He guides in JUSTICE,". (Pride is dispelled)
3. "And the humble He teaches His Way". (The whole book of Acts is in my book called HIS WAY)
4. "All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth,". (Paths of Righteousness)
The recipient of all this teaching is-"To such as KEEP His covenant and His testimonies." (His aim is to create followers of His Word)
David was concerned with God's loving care being extended to him. He related facts about God that are indisputable. Psalm 25:11-18-(TEV):
1. "Keep Your promise, Lord, and FORGIVE MY SINS BECAUSE THEY ARE MANY,". (Read Psalms 31:3; 79:9; 109:21; 143:11)
2. "Those who obey the Lord will LEARN FROM HIM THE WAY THEY SHOULD GO." (Psalms 25:8; 37:23)
3. "THEY WILL ALWAYS BE PROSPEROUS". (Genesis 24:40; 39:3; 3 John verse 2)
4. "And THEIR CHILDREN WILL LIVE SAFELY IN THE LAND." (Proverbs 19:23;
Matthew 5:5)
5. "And HE TEACHES THEM HIS COVENANT." (John 7:17; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:2; 3:32)
6. "I look to the Lord for help at all times, and HE RESCUES ME FROM DANGER." (Psalms 23:4; 141:9-10)
7. "Turn to me, Lord, and BE MERCIFUL TO ME, BECAUSE I AM ALONE AND WEAK." (Psalm 69:16)
8. "RELIEVE ME OF ALL MY WORRIES AND SAVE ME FROM ALL MY TROUBLES." (Job 5:19; Psalm 34:6-7)
9. "CONSIDER ALL MY DISTRESS AND SUFFERING AND FORGIVE ALL MY SINS." (2 Samuel 16:12; John 3:16)
This is a long list of things God can do for you but notice the endless faith demonstrated by David. Words such as: Forgive=Pardon; The Way=Manner of Direction; Prosperous=Wealth; Safety=Free from Danger; Teach=Instruct; Rescue=Free or Save; Merciful=Kindness; Relieve=Bring Comfort; Consider=Keep in Mind and Thought; and Forgive=Back to Pardon Again. The first and last one are the basis for all of the rest. Forgiveness covers a load of sins and opens a multitude of blessings! We receive all these from our Loving God! Praise God and Hallelujah!!!
DAvid repeated the thought of verse 2 in Psalm 25:19a-(CEB)-"Look at how many enemies I have and how violently they hate me!" He begged for help in verse 20-"Please, protect my life! Deliver me! Don't let me be put to shame because I TAKE REFUGE IN YOU." (God is our only refuge!) "LET INTEGRITY AND VIRTUE GUARD ME BECAUSE I HOPE IN YOU." ( Psalm 26:1)
Hebrews 4:16-"LET US THEREFORE COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF GRACE , THAT WE MAY OBTAIN MERCY AND FIND GRACE IN TIME OF NEED,".
Try it , you'll like it!
David closed Psalm 25:22 with words which need no explanation-(KJV)-"REDEEM ISRAEL, O GOD, OUT OF ALL HIS TROUBLES." WE CAN SAY IN OUR OWN WORDS, "PLEASE, GOD, SAVE OUR NATION FROM ALL ITS TROUBLES! AMEN! AND HE WILL!
THE SECRET'S OUT. GOD IS THE ANSWER TO ALL OUR NEEDS AND CARES!!!!
