CHAPTER SIX

WHERE DO WE STAND

Jason giggled as Piper led him towards the bedroom.

"Where we're going?"

Piper smirked and Jason's eyes floated to her. In his drunken state and in this half-dim, half-lit hallway they were journeying across, she was beautiful- a type of deceptively fragile brunette beauty and all the colours about her made him happy and kind of fascinating.

"It's a secret," she sing-songed, the tendons of her wrist tightened over his as she led him down and he obediently followed, too drunk to make sense of anything The hallway was noticeably dimmer than anything else in the house and in the secrecy and protection of the darkness, he made sure his eyes skimmed every piece of Piper Mclean, the dearest mystery he had the pleasure- or trouble- of seeing. "Here take a sip," she handed him the bottle of vodka she stole from the kitchen.

He grinned and drank from it, loving how it burned going down. She scanned the area for the nearest bedroom and then looked back. Their eyes met and her fingers pulled out a small ziplock bag from her pocket. White powder glimmered in the dark along with the mischief painted in her gaze.

Tension shot through Jason's body at the sight of the drug. Suddenly, Jason felt painfully sober- as if everything he had drunk in a short span had cleared up and nervousness settled in but Piper nudged the bottle into his grip and he drank again. Immediately, it elicited an adrenaline rush and he watched every sway of her hips began to become fuzzy.

They disappeared into the nearest bedroom. It was small and bare, most likely used for less favourable guests. One that collected more dust than visitors.

As Jason leant his head on the wall, eyes closed and head tilted back, Reyna flashed in his mind. The day where she sat him down by the cafe opposite of Lombardi's and told him she 'needed space' and their relationship should 'go on a break' to figure out what they want to be floated up to the surface of his mind. I'm not sure if you're what I want, Reyna had said with her fingers interlaced. Her expression was kind, bordering on apologetic. And I think we need some distance for me to decide about that. But we can still be friends. His mouth tasted the bitterness that was in his mouth when he watched her walk away.

"First time?" Piper laughed slightly as he sat himself down on the bed. She dumped the coke on the desk, then separated it into six lines before rolling up a twenty dollar bill and snorting one line. When she stood, she rubbed his nose and offered the crumpled bill to Jason.

In Jason's eyes, Piper was one of the best-looking distractions the universe had to offer to take his mind off his failing relationship and the girl he still loved. In the soft lighting of the room, Piper's cocoa skin seemed to be translucent, like if he touched her he would be engulfed in holy fire. Her mahogany hair fell in curly waves. Her lashes were long, coated in thick amounts of mascara. Her lips were red with sin. She pressed the bottle's tip to them and tilted the drink down her throat.
