Mary P.O.V
I dropped the file off with Marcus and made it out of the medical wing without interference. I made made my way to Dr. Montesinos' office and saw the damage I had done. He was dead. There was nothing I could do for him . I meticulously placed the card on his desk and left. Stone faced.
I took my file with me to my small, cold excuse for a room. I sat on the edge of the bed and flipped through the pages. Trying to take in as many details as I could before they certainly found me with it and took it, and do God knows what to me.
I saw the faces of the people I missed so much. It felt like a millennia since I had last seen them, face to face. Some of their pictures were taken without them knowing, others were stolen from my home. It was all so overwhelming to actually see my family's faces on that paper, I was nearly brought to tears. Until a timid knock took me out of my concentration.
I hid the file under my mattress. I cracked open the door and saw a tall dark figure with the most striking blue eyes.
He looked surprised that I opened the door for him, and then suddenly confused. I wasn't paying that much attention, I was still thinking about my family and the file that was cowering beneath my mattress.
" Can I help you?" I asked him. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you have that." I was noticeably caught off guard.
"Have what?"
"You know what I mean."
I got scared, I let him in my room. I made sure that the door behind me was shut completely before I continued our conversation. I did' know if he was just trying to scare me, so I chose to test him, "Where is it then?" I asked quizzically. He nodded his head in reference to my bed, "In there," he said very matter of factly.
"You can read minds, can't you?"
"Yup."
"Okay, so what do you want?"
He looked down at his feet, and then at me again, sadly. He spoke softly, "That guy you fought at the Vying, he's my best friend." He was having a difficult time getting the words he wanted out, but his tone changed from sadness to urgency in an instant, "And he's in serious danger, and you probably will be too, soon."
I was very shocked that he would say that, "How-how do you know?"
"I've been around Marcus for so long, I just stay connected to him, I know he's in danger, just not what-"
"Quiet." I said hushed. I could hear heavy footsteps coming down the hall, many heavy footsteps. "What?" He asked startled. "They're coming, you need to hide." He complied quickly, somehow being able to fold himself inside my tiny closet next to my bed.
BANG BANG BANG
I creaked open my door and was met with those ever familiar masked faces of the Officials. "3363," they spoke in complete monotone, "Come quietly and no harm will come to you."
I weighed my options. I could try and fight, but I'd get overpowered and pacified. Or I could go quietly and see what my options are wherever they're taking me. I chose the latter. "Okay," I replied. I stuck my wrists out for them to cuff me or tie me, but they didn't. They simply pulled me out of my room and escorted me down the hall.
