She never smiled. Not once while they were talking. She was beautiful anyways. Despite the purple cirlces under her hazel eyes and the way they looked like they had so many secrets behind them that made him want to uncover them. The way her golden hair fell to her shoulder blades and the way her eyebrows scrunched together when she answered my pestering questions. Never once did her lips pull up in a grin.
I didn't even get to see her smile and she was possibly dying. And the fact the she hated me was another minus. That's all I thought about as I sat in the waiting room, picking at my barely existing nails.
"Nolan?" I looked up to see a red eyed Cari with dried tears on her cheeks.
"What is it?" She let out a small squeak and new tears ran down her rosy cheeks. I pulled her onto my lap and smoothed her wild curls.
"It's gonna be okay. She's gonna be okay." She sniffed and looked up at me.
"I know that she said not to but, you should go and see her. I know that you want to. I'll go to." I smiled down at her and wiped the tears off her cheeks. I stood taking her tiny hand I mine.
"We'll go see her now. Come on," we walk down the cold hallway and into the bland room with pale blue walls.
"Cari, I told you to tell him to go home." Avri said and rolled her eyes, looking out the window.
"Cari why don't you give us a minute. Can you go and wait in the children's room?" The little girl smiled and ran out the door, slamming it shut behind her. "She told me to come and see you by the way. And I chose to." She looked back at me, scowling. "Look, I saved your life! The least you could do is thank me." She cried out.
"I didn't want to be saved! I mean don't you think that if I did then I wouldn't have done it? God! I didn't want or need your help." She cried, tears streaming down her beautiful face making me hurt inside like I never have before.
"Hey." I sat down on the edge of the bed and reached up to wipe a tear away. "Your sister needed help. What would've happened to her if you died? If you had let all the blood rush out of you and she came into the bathroom and sees that? What then? You can't do that to her. You can't leave her." She sniffed and looked down at her twisted hands.
"You don't understand what it's like to have both of your parents dead. You have both of your parents. Your happy." I choked out a laugh.
"I watched both my parents murder. Felt their blood between my 10 year old fingers. You think I'm happy? Hell no. And I don't know if I ever will be again. That's my aunt and uncle and they think that I should be dead to. Atleast that's how they treat me. I wish I was too, sometimes, but I never do it. I want to stay here and keep my parents name. Everyone on my dads side of the family is dead so if I die, his name is going down with me. So I can't." She stared at me with wide eyes, brining with tears.
"You told me they died in a plane crash?" I smiled and held her small, cold hand.
"Sometimes people lie just to get by and not get asked questions like the paparazzi. And if I would've told you, you would've looked at me like I was insane." She looked at the beeping heart monitor, sighing.
"I wish it would've stopped." She said staring at the slow pulse of the electric blue line.
"Listen to me, Avri," I reached over and grabbed her chin, forcing her dark hazel eyes to meet mine, "you can't ever do that again." I leaned closer, feeling her cool breath on my cheeks and lips, "You can't do that. Do you promise? Promise me." She blinked, her lips parting.
"I-I-I promise, Nolan." I straightened quickly, pushing the chair back into the corner.
"I'm going to take Cari to my house and make sure that she gets some sleep and that my aunt makes her some real food. I'll be back in twenty minutes." She nodded, silently, and I walked out to the children's playroom.

Hi there! It's me. You've probably noticed that my chapters are shorter than normal Wattpad stories, but I like shorter chapters and longer stories. If you don't like the short chapters then let me just say that this book isn't for you. I also like switching POV's so if you don't like that either, I suggest you leave. For all the people who've read this far THANK YOU!!! You are what keeps me going! Y'all are the best!
Kisses,
-E
