FLASHBACK
"Listen," Nolan said as he sat in the hard chair beside Avri's bed, "i don't know why you hate me so-"
"Because you saved me when I didn't want to be saved! I never asked for you're help!" She interrupted him. Hot tears rolling down her cheeks.
"CARI NEEDED YOU!" He screamed, frustrated at her selfishness, "SHE STILL NEEDS YOU! SHE WOULDCE GONE TO AN ORPHANAGE IF YOU WOULD'VE DIED!" He put his hands over his face and Avri really saw the tiredness and stress and anxiety all on his shoulders. Guilt carved a put in her stomach and went to sleep, planning to stay for a while.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't think about it like that." The boy sighed and scooted his chair closer, grabbing her pale, cold hand and rubbing his thumb over the top of her hand.
"I know. I'm sorry I yelled. I overstepped my boundaries and I shouldn't have." The small girl shook her head.
"No. If you hadn't said it could've been to late next time. I care about her so much." More tears created rivers on her cheeks made Nolan's heart feel something he didn't know but didn't like.
"I know you do, but you have to think of her before you do that. She wouldn't sleep when I dropped her off. I set her up in my bed but she just wanted to watch tv because she was scared of the possibility of nightmares. She will never forget what happened." He reached a big, calloused hand up and whipped away the trail of tears on her cheeks.
"What am I doing?" Avri whispered and leaned against his hand, a warm feeling filling her. She liked the way his hand molded to her thin face and the roughness of them. She also liked that they warmed up her cold body. She tilted her head and pressed her lips against the inside of his wrist, feeling his racing pulse against her lips.
He kept his hand there but moved his chair closer to her head and pull down the bed rails and moved the IV bag stand. The beautiful girl twisted on her side to face him, cradling his arm to her chest and pulled her legs up in a fetal position.
Avri stared at the attractive boy as he leaned his head back against the blue chair and closed his eyes. She did the same but didn't fall asleep like he did. She just listened. Listened to the heart monitors steady beat, to the dripping of the fluids in the IV bag, to the boys slow and even breathing, and to the sound of her own heart. Her mind was blank like a black hole that no one can seem to get out of.
She shifted closer to the sleep boy, almost slipping off the edge of the bed. Avri was so close, she could feel his icy breath against her hot face, calming her. Her heart beat slowed and suddenly a wave of exhaustion hit her, pulling farther and farther into that black hole.
