"Dad? I-It's Mitchell."

-

Mitchell sat on the floor infront of Micbael's bed, knees to his chest, as he bit his fingernails until they bled.

"Mitch, I'm sorry-" Jack tried.

"Save it. I-I got it under control..." He snapped, eyes never leaving his brother's body.

His bandaged body.

"H-He still hasn't w-woke up..." Mitchell whispered as tears brimmed his forest green eyes, "And o-our mom don't f-fuckin' care."

Jack frowned and slowly sat beside Mitchell, pulling him pratically into his lap. "Don't cry, Mitchy..." He whispered, stroking the smaller boys' dark blonde hair, "Don't cry."

Only, it seemed like that just made Mitchell worsen.

His lip quivered as he bit his lip to stop crying. He squeezed his eyes shut as soon as he lifted his teeth, a loud sob escaping his cracked lips.

He fell into Jack's embrace, wrapping his slender arms around his shirt cladded waist. Mitchell tried to form words, any words he could think of, but they always came out as whiney pleads interrupted by gasps of small breaths.

He swallowed all his cries. He had to get one sentence out, needed to. Mitchell licked his lips, letting a shaky sigh fall, and slowly lifted his head from Jack's chest. "I--I called my d-dad." He gasped out.

Jack stared at him; flushed face, doused cheeks, sweaty, messy hair. "When? Why? What did he say?" Jack frantically asked, a smile threatening him.

"H-He's coming to s-see us--me, michael, and may." Mitchell confessed. Jack and Luke had never met his father, so they didn't know what to expect.

Last time Mitchell checked, his father left his mother because of her habits, not because she kicked him out like she said. He's the good guy.

Jack smiled and nodded, holding Mitchell's hips to keep the shaking boy close to him. "Calm down, Mitchy, please."He whispered as the boy fell back onto him. "I-I can't." He whimpered.

He thanked god Luke and May were asleep, how embarrassing it would be for them to see him like this.

Jack lyed his chin up on Mitchell's head, rocking the two back and fourth as Mitchell fisted Jack's shirt. Jack rubbed the latter's back as he hummed the theme song to Pokemon.

The actions made Mitchell smile and- he would never admit it- made his heart flutter. His breathing slowly evened out and his grip loosened.

"The officers told me, if one of our parents don't show up within the next 24 hours, they're taking us into foster care of moving us to a different home or homes." Jack mumbled, never stopping his movements.

Mitchell stilled and bit his lip, slowly nodding as he fought to stay calm. "How...How many hours are left?" He asked quietly.

"Mitch-"

"How many." He demanded.

"2 and a half..."
