Opening up my eyes, I winced at the sudden brightness that welcomed my vision. Sitting up, I looked around my surroundings. Trees aligned the bright forest and a clear pond glistened among the trees. Where was I?
"Are you ok miss?" I heard a soft voice ask me. Peering up, I saw a very beautiful teenage girl around my age. She had perfect golden wavy hair that fell to her chest and the most brightest blue eyes I had ever seen. She wore a blue frock with a white apron and black flats.
"I'm alright," I smiled as she helped me up. "Thank you."
"I'm glad to meet your aquaintance," the girl said, dazzling me with her grin. "My name is Cinderella, but I prefer just Ella."
I stood frozen in confusion and fear. What the? Looking around, I realized that we were in the forest where Cinderella's tree stood. The one dedicated to her mom that would give her the clothes for the ball.
"Mina," I mumbled carelessly, still trying to take in my surroundings. You know how people usually scream or shout when something strange happens? Yeah I just gaped at her. Cinderella truly didn't seem to notice my peculiarity and started humming while she watered her tree.
"Wow," I breathed. "This is amazing." The tree was definitely the tallest one in the forest. I was amazed to see gold glitter and sparkles surrounding the tree, like magic.
"The tree never dies," Cinderella commented. "It's the most important thing in my life."
"I have something like that too," I told her. "The most important thing in my life."
I thought about Lark, realizing just how much I missed him already. Who knew when I would get out of this...well whatever it was?
"Oh yeah?" Ella replied. "It's an amazing feeling care for something so deeply."
"My step-brother is the most important thing in my life."
"I wish I could say the same about my step-sisters, but they treat me poorly. Locking me up in the attic most of the time."
"Speaking of attics and homes, I don't really have a place to live," I muttered.
"You and your brother are homeless?"
"Not exactly. Uhhh well my step-parents kicked me out," I lied, hoping that it sounded believable.
"You poor girl! I can sneak you up in my bedroom," Cinderella said kindly. "It's a little small but it will do. Thankfully no one goes in there."
I sighed in relief and thanked the beautiful girl. I looked down at my feet and now realized that I was no longer in my casual clothes. Dressed in a deep purple frock, I looked like I belonged.
When she sneaked me in her room and left to do her chores, I felt my pocketwatch in the pocket of my dress. It looked like a normal watch now, with the clock ticking away at the new time. How was this watch so magical? And why did it bring me here?
I noticed some small mice in the corner and smiled. They stared up at me with beady eyes, noticing that I meant them no harm. After getting tired of the staring contest, they scampered off, leaving me to my thoughts.
Cinderella's bedroom was a tiny thing, only containing a small bed, dresser, and vanity. Although it was small, the whole room was very organized with nothing out of place. It also was very comfortable and felt like home.
I scrambled under the bed when I heard obnoxious voices. The story was starting.
"A ball!" I heard a shrill voice screech. "Oh I can't wait! The prince will surely take me as his queen."
"Why would he take you?!" a raspy voice argued. "He'd obviously take me."
They came into Cinderella's bedroom, where Cinderella had begged to go to the ball but the stepmother had refused. I had to stop myself from laughing when I saw the stepsisters.
Anastasia was the one with the fiery dyed red hair looked truly fake while Driselle had powdered her face so much that she looked like she had a pure white mask on. They both looked like they had plastic surgery and don't get me started on the clown makeup. I don't even know how they managed to move their lips with all the powder caked on.
As the stepsisters smiled wickedly in glee, they slammed their door on their crying sister. I noticed the bowl of lentils beside her and gently hugged my new friend.
"I'm so sorry Cinderella," I said gently as she wept.
Cinderella grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the house and into the forest and I gasped as the scene changed.
Cinderella was now crying on her mother's grave. When the bird threw the gold and silver dress down, I smiled at Cinderella's glee and watched as she got dolled up. Her delicate feet were perched in the beautiful golden slippers.
"What about you my dear?" Cinderella asked, concerned. I looked at the stunning girl in front of me and smiled.
"No need to fret," I said, trying to sound as elegant as her. "Let's go shall we?"
She finally nodded and we headed to the ball in the beautiful carriage.
