Monday morning will be the defining moment of my high school career. Honestly I was dreading this day 100%. The choices I make can affect me in every which way. I finished straightening my blonde hair to make it pin straight. After getting dressed in ripped skinny jeans and a white tank top with a little red sweater to go with it I laced up my black converse and grabbed my black backpack and headed my way downstairs to the kitchen. Another tradition of the Lockwood family is new school year breakfast. Mom gets up early and gets ready for work then heads downstairs to prepare breakfast. A little later dad follows the routine and meets up with mom in the kitchen and helps her make the breakfast. My mom swears that a healthy breakfast will help kick off the new school year in a great way. I'm not going to object to it either because as I walked into the kitchen I saw the best thing ever. My mom and dad laughing together with white powder on their faces. Honestly sometimes they are still kids with each other. The dining room table had an assortment of breakfast foods starting with pancakes and ending in cut fruit.

"Hey guys, you got a little." I said as I pointed at my face and circled it.

"Oh hi honey." my mom said grabbing a kitchen towel and wiping her face then wiping my dads face.

"Your mother insisted in making pancakes, so of course I had to mess with her a little bit."

"You didn't HAVE to mess with me."

"But honey, you look absolutely adorable all a mess with powder on your face." he said grabbing her waist.

They were now facing each other and he leaned in to give her a kiss on the lips.

      "I love you." he said.

"I love you too." she replied with a smile on her face.

I just stared at them for what seemed like forever. Seeing them so happy always made my day. They have been together since high school got married when they were in their twenties and have been married ever since. I can't even remember ever seeing them apart or hearing a story of them being apart. They've just always been there for each other. Deep down I wish I could be that level of bliss.

"Honey you okay? You've been staring into space for like 3 minutes." my mom said.

"Hmm yeah, sorry I was just thinking."

She smiled and grabbed the forks out of the drawer and headed to the dining room table.

"Sterling lets go! Breakfast!" my dad shouted up the stairs.

Sterling came rushing down the stairs and ran to the table and sat in his usual seat.

      "Sorry, I woke up late."

"Its okay. So Sterling I want you to take Gemma and yourself to the store after school and get school supplies. You get lists from your teachers right?" my mom insisted.

We both nodded our heads. To be honest back to school shopping is my absolute favorite thing to do. After a half an hour of eating it was time to go.

"Okay i'll see you both when you get home. Love you so much." my mom said kissing my brother's cheek and following by doing the same to me.

She let us leave the house and my brother and me got into his car.

      "You'll be fine."

"Huh? Why'd you say that?" I questioned.

"I'm your brother, I know when you're nervous Gem."

"Its just intimidating you know? New school year, new people, new everything."

"Elk Creek isn't that bad, just go to your classes and try to be normal."

"What? Me normal?" I made a shocked face. "Oh Stir, I cannot possibly be normal." I said laughing like a freak.

He rolled his eyes. Can I be normal? Honestly I don't know if thats possible.
